Should I try RCCL?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Have a question for whoever has cruised BOTH Carnival & RCCL. I recently had my 1st cruise on the Carnival Imagination (Miami to Key West & Cozumel, 4 nights). I really disliked it... thought the buffet/pizza/food on Lido was not great, every .5 seconds I was being bothered to pose for a photo, buy a "drink of the day", etc. The type of people (and I am NOT a snob) were pretty trashy and classless and I found the ship to be small. My experience kinda turned my off cruising however I was thinking about trying a RCCL SHORT cruise to the Bahamas this summer. What do you guys think? Is it worth another try? Will I see the difference in Carnival vs RCCL or should I give up cruising all together :( Thanks!

You need to try a longer cruise for realistic assessment. The short cruises use the oldest ships in their fleets whether it be Carnival or RCL.

I have cruised both and prefer RCCL way more for a variety of reasons. Cruising is not for everyone. Some things you will find no matter the line is photos, but no one is forcing you to pose or buy, we just say no thanks and keep on walking. Drinks, again just ignore them if you don't want one.

Awww, I'm sorry you didn't like your first cruise. Defeinitely try another one. I love the short Bahama cruises that RCCL does. Doing one in May myself. I have sailed on both and prefer Royal. Give it another try, what's the worst that can happen? A bad day on a cruise is still better than a good day at work!:D

I've cruised both and prefer Royal for a variety of reasons (food, entertainment, ships, etc.) but I agree with the poster who said you should try a longer cruise. The shorter cruises attract a more partying crowd, families with kids who can't afford a longer cruise, college kids getting away for the weekend, etc. Probably the most enjoyable cruise I've taken was an 11 night to the Southern Caribbean. It was out of the price range of the "trashy" type of passengers and because it was during school there were only about 6 kids on the entire ship. It was fantastic.

Short cruises are going to attract the drinkers and partiers, no doubt about that.
