Frenchsnowhite Posted March 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2010 We are looking at 2 cruises, the first one leaves from Mobile and the other ones leaves from New Orleans. We've never been to either ports. We're from Montreal in Canada, and we want to drive all the way up there and do the 1628 miles that needs to be done to go on this cruise. Flying is not an option for our family of 5 because of money issue. So my question was, how is the weather at that time of year in that part of the country? We'll be passing thru Columbus Ohio, Cincinnati Kentucky and Nashville Tennesse. Is this crazy??? Are these states lots of snow states at those dates? Thanks! Electricflyer Posted March 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2010 That drive is a strong 3 days with little time to look around. You should arrive at least the day before sailing so figure 4 days travel and get there the day before you sail. You will have the possibility of snow or ice all the way south until you are close to the Tennessee/Alabama border. Hard to predict the weather that far out. Just watch the forecasts a couple weeks before you leave to adjust your travel time. It is rare that the roads will be closed but if there is ice it can be a little dicey. The weather at either port will probably be 50F to 60F during the day and drop down to the mid 30sF at night. Mobile is probably a little easier to get around in than New Orleans. If you like to sightsee then go to New Orleans as the dock is very near the French Quarter. Check the internet for a motel/hotel that will have free parking during the cruise if you stay one night either before or after the cruise and save about $10 a day. Look for a "Sleep & Sail" hotel. Just about all the La Quinta's offer that but make a direct call and check.

firefly333 Posted March 22, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2010 I answered you on your other thread about the weather. It was 40s early December in New Orleans for us. Upper Louisianna and Texas had snow the day we left. Still 40s the first sea day at breakfast time, probably because the ship out of New Orleans has to go up the river and that takes a lot more time going slower, so it didnt warm up like out of Galveston does.
