Putterdude Posted March 28, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Yes! If you like gardens, Butchart Gardens are a world class attraction and something not to be missed. To cut down on the cost , depending upon the amount of time you have in Victoria you may care to check on a tour with CVS Victoria who operate the shuttle from the cruise terminal to the Inner Harbour. http://cvscruisevictoria.com/
timetravler Posted March 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 28, 2010 It's money well spent. There are acres and acres of beautiful shrubs, flowers, trees, and a few waterfalls too. Lots of unusual plants and flowers. It looks like a painting.
Rare Coral Posted March 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 28, 2010 It is very beautiful! I love it.
WatchHill Posted March 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted March 28, 2010 I'm returning to Butchart Gardens for the fourth time in June. The gardens are spectacular, and well worth the visit. If you have time, stop at their gift shop for flower seeds and garden related gifts. Darcy
lorilea Posted March 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Even my 11 yr old daughter and 14 year old son enjoyed it! Take your camera - it's beautiful!
d-ray Posted March 28, 2010 #7 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Is it worth the cost in the evening? We will be arriving in Victoria at 7:30pm, what would you do?
NMLady Posted March 28, 2010 #8 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Just looking for peoples comments on this venue. YES!! We were there in winter and it was beautiful. It's even more beautiful in spring with so many flowers in bloom. I'm not a gardener and I loved all the different kinds of plants.
PennyAgain Posted March 28, 2010 #9 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Evening visits vary in value with the time of sunset. Check out the sunset time and decide for yourself. I personally don't enjoy seeing gardens under artificial lights. Some people love to do so!
Putterdude Posted March 28, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Is it worth the cost in the evening? We will be arriving in Victoria at 7:30pm, what would you do? I can't see from your signatue what time of year you will be in Victoria but we do have light in June and July until after 9:30 and then of course the gardens are illuminated after that and they really are quite lovely. Rare iamaqt2 Posted March 28, 2010 #11 Share Posted March 28, 2010 IIRC there are also some evenings that have a fireworks display. Edit: I found this info on their website: Each summer evening the Concert Lawn fills with visitors who enjoy the on-stage performances. On Saturday nights a grand Fireworks Display follows the Concert Lawn performance on an adjoining lawn. You'll find it hard to believe this complicated theatrical performance of fire on water and land, complete with music, is all controlled by hand firing. mytime53 Posted March 28, 2010 #12 Share Posted March 28, 2010 Although I'm sure there are other things I will do there, I am planning a trip to Victoria just to see Butchart Gardens.
c-cruise Posted March 29, 2010 #13 Share Posted March 29, 2010 Yes, it is definitely worth visiting even if you only have a few hours to spend there. Plus, it's really not that expensive of an excursion especially when compared to some of the other tour options in Alaska.
gertz Posted March 29, 2010 #14 Share Posted March 29, 2010 A big YES. And if you take the ferry from Vancouver it is equally impressive.
BIG_Steve Posted March 29, 2010 #15 Share Posted March 29, 2010 Just looking for peoples comments on this venue. If you're interested in gardening and flora, sure. If you're not interested in that, I wouldn't bother.
bluedevil72 Posted March 30, 2010 #16 Share Posted March 30, 2010 We did it in '05 and are going to go again in July. It's the only excursion we're doing through the cruiseline because of the short time we're there. We also had a short visit the other time and also went with the cruiseline that time as well. The excursion also included a short tour of Victoria which we enjoyed. This one does as well.
