Rare Got2Cruise Posted March 31, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2010 Hey. I stumbled upon a great website from the MTA concerning using public transportation in New York. It is user friendly, and what I think might be a great help is that it lists the stations with elevators, and a separate link for tourist sights. http://www.tripplanner.mta.info/_start.aspx Also there is info if you need accessible transportation. That is a question that is often asked also.
GTJ Posted April 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2010 These trip planners are things that have really exploded in popularity throughout so many public transportation systems. Some work better than others, and indeed the New York City one is quite good (though indeed I could pick on its edges). It's always a good idea to check with other cruise ports as well to determine if there's reasonable public transportation to the port of embarkation, or during the day at an intermediate port-of-call. Links to systems in the United States and Canada are available at the website of the American Public Transportation Asssociation, http://www.apta.com/resources/links, while my website, The Transportation Directory, http://www.transportationdirectory.co.cc, has links elsewhere in North America. RickinNYC Posted April 22, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2010 Another great site for public transportation in NYC and other major cities is Hopstop.com It's pretty accurate, at least here in New York, although I did find a couple of instances where it directed me to go to a station one stop beyond what was necessary. Not a big deal if you don't know the area and only a nuisance for a native.
