KroozFoolz Posted April 7, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2010 This was posted on the Carnival board earlier this evening in a Live from the Dream thread: CD just announced that we'll be delayed leaving Roatan because the Princess ship in front of us is being held due to high winds. Winds are currently 25 knots. Dunno nor really care when we'll leave. The Dream webcam: http://www.infocruise.it/infoCarnival/ShipInfo.asp?name=Dream&channel=
SF Posted April 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Glad to hear it's only due to wind and nothing else as we board hopefully this Saturday.:):):) So what time did they end up leaving? Are they going to have less time in Cozumel?
jfv379 Posted April 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2010 So what time did they end up leaving? Are they going to have less time in Cozumel? We were on the Crown and delayed in Aruba for several hours due to wind. They make up the time an arrived on time at the next port.
KroozFoolz Posted April 7, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Another post from the Live from the Dream thread on the Carnival board: Good afternoon everyone! We pulled out of Roatan around 8:00AM this morning and our scheduled stop at Belize has been cancelled. The winds were gusty all night at Roatan so we weren't able to leave. The Princess ship is still out in front of us. They were scheduled to stop in Cozumel today, but I doubt they'll be making their stop either. It was a very peaceful night on our balcony; I spent hours sitting out there listening to insects making whatever noise it is they make, birds chirping and dogs barking! How often do you get to sit on your ship's balcony at night and listen to dogs barking in the distance? It was an awesome night really! The ship itself made absolutely no noise! No engine noise, no sound of waves crashing or our wake churning up behind us. Very memorable. They also opened the casion last night around 10:30 and accounced that the shops would open and be open most of the night as well. I donated more $ to the casino..... The CD announced early this morning that each cabin would be credited $20 for having missed Belize. We received mail a little while ago indicating each passenger would receive $7.16 posted to their S&S accounts as a refund of Belize goverment fees and taxes along with automatic refunding for purchased excursions. DanJ Posted April 8, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 8, 2010 Can't wait for the review threads next week on the Carnival board, saying how pathetic it is that they had to miss their port because Princess couldn't leave, and they should get half their cruise fare back. Never mind that if the Crown tried to depart, it probably would have been blown into the Dream.

senior lady Posted April 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 8, 2010 We had high winds in Dunedin, New Zealand last October. Snapped to lines and they had to bring two tugs over to hold the ship against the pier. We didn't leave until the next morning.

fridaythecat.u.k. Posted April 8, 2010 #11 Share Posted April 8, 2010 A little sensitive about Carnival cruisers? You wouldn't have thought so - looking at his signature, it looks like he has been on 3 Carnival cruises
lovevacadays Posted April 8, 2010 #12 Share Posted April 8, 2010 A little sensitive about Carnival cruisers? It's probably true that both Carnival and Princess will have a few of those rare individuals who think the cruiseline should give them hugh paybacks for weather and circumstances that are beyond their control. I wonder if some people just don't read the cruise contract.

I wonder if some people just don't read the cruise contract. I'd wager quite a lot of money that very few that cruise actually read their cruise contract and for those that do read it a high percent don't think it actually applies to them. It will be interesting to read the comments when those sailings return home.
DanJ Posted April 9, 2010 #14 Share Posted April 9, 2010 I'd actually be saying the same thing if the ships had been reversed, because we know there would be people coming on this board later and crying about how their vacation was ruined because that other ship was in the way. But considering the Carny board is the busiest one on here, it does have what seems to be a higher share of complainers. And I've enjoyed 2 out of my 3 Carnival cruises just about as much as my 3 Princess cruises, so, no I don't have any particular prejudice against Carnival or the people that cruise them. hairbflo Posted April 10, 2010 #16 Share Posted April 10, 2010 i was on the crown, high winds across the ship which would have made it dangerous to attempt leaving the narrow channel. The Dream was behind us but even if she was in front it wouldn't have left either. stayed tied up til around 6am the next am when captain and the local pilot thought we had a "window" to leave. we did miss cozumel and yes we were disappointed since we really wanted to see the ruins but everyone seemed to understand. during our ultimate ship tour the captain explained in more detail how the channel is & what the risk was. like I said before, didnt see anybody who did not understand
poolcc56 Posted April 11, 2010 #17 Share Posted April 11, 2010 We were on the Crown, the offical reason from the captain was winds in excess of 25 knots from the east were higher that the safe threshold allowed for navigating the narrow channel by the local harbor pilot. so it wouldn't of mattered what ship was in front of which. nether ship was going anywhere. yes we were dissapointed in missing cozumel but safety comes first. pwlorraine Posted April 11, 2010 #20 Share Posted April 11, 2010 This is a weakness in Princess's new port at Roatan. Celebrity and NCL were at the old port using tenders - they both sailed away easily. The Princess terminal is the typical Diamonds International + others - it is pretty with the new man made beach but will hit this wind problem often. Roatan was our favorite port and is very beautiful but I think getting in and out is going to be a crapshoot. I don't know if they can dredge out a wider channel or develop a procedure for easier departure. Peter

tinatark Posted April 12, 2010 #25 Share Posted April 12, 2010 and it did stink to miss Cozumel! But we love sea days, too, so not a horrible experience. Afterwards, I mentioned to the shopping "expert" that she didn't mention Cozumel shopping and raved about the shopping in Grand Cayman as the best during the cruise - she said she had been worried about our stop in Cozumel, as we were planning to tender in and were also scheduled to be ship #8 in port that day. So maybe it wouldn't have been the best day in Cozumel anyway. I thought it was interesting that she didn't even mention that particular port during her talk. It threw entertainment plans off - some were to switch ships at Cozumel - we also talked to a couple of the waitstaff which were really disappointed - they were both from Mexico City and loved the Coz stop as it was "home" for them. The Crown is going to the Med. (?) after 3 cruises following ours so their local stops are limited. To answer the question about the shops/casino while we were at Honduras - all of them opened- we were wondering "how", since cruise lines always say that they are to remain closed until a certain point after leaving port, but we assumed the possible fines would be negated by revenue the cruise line received! We had big shopping plans for Cozumel, so the stayover saved us some $$!
