CruisinGerman Posted April 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2010 Dear friends: Greetings from Madrid where we live. You can rent a car -- the major agencies are Avis, Hertz, Sixt and a local Canary Island agency named CICAR. When you make your reservation in advance, make sure they agree to meet you with the car at the pier. Tenerife is a vast island and what you will want to see will require driving. You will want a brief tour of Santa Cruz city, then to see the lush greenery of the Northern resort area of Puerto de la Cruz, then you probably want to go to Teide National Park and see the volcanic mountain. If you have time you could see the Southern beach resorts of Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, etc. Hiring a private tour and driver is not as expensive on the Canaries as it is in places in France and Italy, so for convenience sake you might want to look into that possibility as well. Happy cruising, Gunther and Uta

Rare Hlitner Posted April 8, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 8, 2010 We rented a car from CICAR and were very pleased with our entire day. We managed to drive up through the national park to the volanco (we were well above the clouds) and then drove down to the other side of the island before returning to the port. We have our own GPS unit which was really helpful and would recommend renting a GPS unless you own a unit with European maps. Hank
