bmkj Posted April 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2010 We will dock in Naples on Sunday August 8th. We have previously toured Pompei and Capri. Trying to find a tour that includes Capri with an Amalfi coast drive to Sorrento and other coastal towns. Most excursions, including the Princess ship's tours, have a coastal drive that may include Pompei but not one with Capri. We found a tour company (Amalfi-drive.com) that has what we want. It goes from Naples to Capri, then to Sorrento and Positano and includes lunch. Is anyone familiar with this itinerary and/or tour company? Wondering, how much time we get at each location, the quality of the company, and also, since it is a Sunday, if everything is open. Any help would be appreciated. chipmaster Posted April 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2010 What you ask for is very doable in a day especially skipping Pompeii. Any of the private operators out of Naples should meet this. Remember private means that, do it at your pace spending time where you want and going fast where you don't want. Personally I would recommend RIL ( RomeInLimo, yes they do Naples too ) as they were great for us in this Port as well as two others. Happy planning! We will dock in Naples on Sunday August 8th. Rare Hlitner Posted April 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2010 Can it be done? Sure. But the question is would it be a reasonable use of time. We have long recommended that Capri not be combined with an Amalfi Coast tour for a typical port day. We do love the Amalfi Coast (have spent two extended vacations on that coast) but the logistics of getting to and from Capri plus the time that should be spent on Capri makes the tour very rushed. The problem is we think that Capri is worthy of several hours. In fact, just to do our favorite Capri activity (taking the chair lift from Anacapri up to the top of the mountain) takes at least 2 hours. The tour you describe will get you a quick look at Capri with some time to walk around Capri Town and then a quick trip on the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento is really not part of the Amalfi Drive but rather a starting point). To truly enjoy the Amalfi Coast you should have time to explore the streets of Positano (not possible on cruise bus tours) and also be able to visit Revello for at least 1 or 2 hours. Philosophically there seems to be two schools of thought on travel. One school (very popular with many of our fellow Americans) is to see as many places as possible in the shortest time which means you can say you were there but never really saw much; or the 2nd school which is to see fewer places but have enough time to really see those places, enjoy some outdoor cafes, etc. We are obviously students of that 2nd school. By the way, we noticed that at least one of the cruise lines (Princess) used to offer an "elite" tour by private car (these can cost more then $400 per person) that did try to cover the Amalfi Coast and Capri. What they did was take a morning drive from ship to Positano (via Sorrento and the Amalfi Drive) and have a quick lunch in Positano and then catch an early afternoon jet boat from Positano to Capri...and later return from Capri to Naples. We recently noticed that they have now eliminated that tour. Hank
skyboy Posted April 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2010 We did Capri and Positano in one day and thought it was great. We used Nello as our guide. info@drivesorrento.com We were on the earlist hydrofoil to Capri. Our guide rented a taxi for us and we went to the Blue Grotto which we thought was a blast. We finished with the Blue Grotto by 10am and we toured around Capri and Anacapri, stopping for a small snack. We took the 12:30 hydrofoil to Sorrento, where we had a driver waiting for us. Both hypdrofoil rides were about 45 minutes. We drove to Positano and had a wonderful lunch with the most magnificant view. We then had an hour to walk around Positano and go down to the beach. The drive from Sorrento to Positano is beautiful and gives you a taste of what the Amalfi Coast is like. We then headed back through Sorrento to the ship and arrived early enough to have a great pizza in a restaurant near the port. It was really a great day. I felt like we were on a time schedule but not rushed.
maryann ns Posted April 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2010 Another company to check out is seesorrento.com. Marcello is the main guide and he is great. Just be aware that he is passionate about this part of the world and loves to talk!

How many were you and approximately how much was the cost?
roblu Posted May 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 20, 2010 we used http://www.lenereidi.com for a private boat tour to Capri, it was spectacular. they pick you up feet from the port in sorrento and go out to capri, most boat tours have you get to capri by public hydrofoil and then meet you in capri. They gave us champagne and fruit and made it a really special day. It was $500.00 for the day and we split it with another couple. you could do 6 comfortably, maybe 8.
