Monaco Historic Grand Prix

The Eurodam is in Monaco on May 1, which is the first day of the Historic Grand Prix. Has anyone been there for that race weekend? I would assume less crowded and better opportunity to actually see something?

Hello, Dennis

During both the Historic and the Formula 1 Grand Prix, shops and restaurants are all open. Only offices are closed.

However, public transportation as well as walking around town is restricted, since most of Monte-Carlo and the whole port is closed - the race circuit is right in the center of the Principality. Busses are taking the tour "around", but you will be able to use them from Place d'Armes towards Fontvieille, Larvotto beach and up to the Jardin Exotique.

The Historic Grand Prix is quite an interesting event, with kind of different spectators attending. There is a different race every hour and the oldest cars date from the 1920's. Tickets are inexpensive, compared to the F-1 Grand Prix and available even last minute at various sales outlets around town. Check the website of the Automobile Club for further information: http://www.acm.mc

I am not sure, if the big Oceanographic Museum is open during the Historic GP (it is closed during F-1 GP, since access to Monaco Ville is closed to the public during day time). It is worthwhile a visit this summer, for they have a Damian Hirst exhibition which drew already much attention with local residents and had 12.000 visitors during the first weekend.

Sightseeing might be reduced to the Gardens (like in Fontvieille, the Exotic Garden and the Japanese garden near the beach) and the Old Town. However, it will be wonderful for people watching! Private yachts and luxury cars are some other "highlights" of sightseeing.

Enjoy your day in Monaco, it is really an exiting weekend !
