Gingee Posted April 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I was wondering if anyone knows how the oil explosion if it has affected the cruise ships?
silverado44 Posted April 23, 2010 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2010 Mexican Riviera cruises from west coast are fine.
bbwex Posted April 23, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I suspect that they will steam around the fire rather than going right through it. Not to belittle the loss of human life, but it's a dot on a very large wall. It should have no impact.
paul929207 Posted April 23, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2010 I have not heard of any effect which I take to mean it has had no effect on cruise ships. There is plenty of sea for the ships to avoid the area of the disaster,
Gingee Posted April 24, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted April 24, 2010 I was just looking at the news report and it showed a star where it was in the ocean. From the reports it looks like it was right before you start to go down the river to New Orleans. No I wasn't concerned about our cruise.
bbwex Posted April 24, 2010 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2010 It's about 50 miles out to sea. At that point, it is, as I said before, a dot.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 24, 2010 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2010 Won't affect any HAL ships -- none are left in the Caribbean for summer.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 24, 2010 #8 Share Posted April 24, 2010 Opps -- take that back -- one HAL ship still has a 14 day cruise left before it heads out of the Caribbean -- but is not scheduled to be in that area.
lady_cruiser Posted April 24, 2010 #9 Share Posted April 24, 2010 While we do see oil rigs while either leaving out of the New Orleans or Galveston ports I don't think that it will affect any cruise line leaving or coming back to one of these ports. I am sure that our U.S. Coast Guard, port masters and ships' captains have plans in place to go around any rig fire/accident.
