Come on, Allen...Spill....you gotta tell us about this mattress assault!

Sheila, I was on the Victory with The Southern Crossers group (there were 30 or 40 of us, many of whom had cruised multiple times before) two weeks ago and I had a 1-A porthole cabin with a twin bed. Apparently, every time I would toss or turn during the night, the mattress would scoot an inch or two. On the second night, at 4 a.m., it had scooted enough to dump me out onto the floor. I was flat on my back in a narrow area between the wall and the bed frame, pitch dark, and then the mattress plunged down on top of me, edgewise. I really needed access to a forklift at that point to extricate myself.

It took about 15 to 20 minutes to finally escape from under the mattress and I was banged up enough so that I had to cancel the excursions I had planned and wound up never leaving the ship. We had no sea days at all. It was the Southern Caribbean out of San Juan, and every day was a port day.

I still had a great time, though. I slept until noon every day, ate a two-hour lunch while viewing the port from the ship, read a book each day, and then chatted with my friends as they returned to the ship. Then a sushi snack, pre-dinner cocktails with friends, dinner, and usually the casino afterwards (I won $300!) and then a pizza and nightcaps on the lido deck at 3 a.m. and to bed around four. Each day pretty much repeated the same sequence, but it was amazingly relaxing and stress-free.:)

Just popping in to say Hello! :)

You guys are always so full of enthusiasm (sp?) and fun, love the contest , anyone pic Aug 22nd yet?

I really can't believe we have to wait so long to sail again together, sad no-one wants to join us in Jan. on the Liberty:( and hopeing that when we do get dates for 2012 that Jan. is the month everyone picks as that is our tradition and the only month we can make work;)

It's been quiet on the facebook page....anyone else have trouble keeping up with all the places to chat and keep track?! Internet world as great as it is is CraZy!:D

I will guess June 18. We leave for San diego that day and it would just be my luck that i would be without computer access for 10 days when it is announced. May give Sheila my cc number to book for me but then I wonder if she would do some shopping???? Hopefully it will happen sooner. Enjoy the weekend everyone. I will pretty much be "home alone" so am looking forward to the quiet. Sheila - we are supposed to get rain all weekend. How about y'all? Denise

Hi All:)

I will have to guess June 1st. Its the day after Memorial day, great day to make an announcement and it is also my Lovely Wife and My 37th Anniversary. Since we aren't able to cruise this year, that would be good news and provide something to look forward too!!!

Later

BOB:rolleyes:

Hi Denise. Elana would be glad to take care of it for you :D (I can't make the smile big enough) She is very very trustworthy:p

Sheila enjoy those grandkids while they are small. I just had mine cancel on me for the weekend. I guess as they get older it isn't as much fun to hang around with grandma as it is your friends.:( Richard and I will make the most of a "couple" weekend. On second thought this could be fun;)

Have a great weekend everyone.

Still waiting

Elaine

I would have paid to watch you file a complaint with Guest Services.......

"Miss, I was just attacked by my mattress and have multiple injuries".....

Sounds like you had a pretty good attitude & made the best of a bad situation.

Sally, have fun on the Destiny! Isn't that the same cruise that Linda and Judie are going on?

Hi Debbie - Yes, we will be cruising in January with Sally and Wes, and their friends Rick and Bonnie. Maybe we can call this the Miracle Waiters Mini-Reunion!

Allen - sorry for your trials and tribulations with the bed. But thanks for the warning. I will be in one of those 1-A porthole cabins on the Victory. Since I won't need the bungee cord for the balcony door this time, maybe I will use it to tie the mattress to the bed frame!

Looking forward to hopefully meeting you on the ARUBA cruise.

I just might have had a few teeny tiny Big Azz Foster's that evening... and perhaps some cognac and maybe a few gin martinis, and .........:D

Linda, that seriously might be a good idea. The mattress was just sitting on some kind of plastic platform with no attachments to it of any kind. I've sailed in a 1-A many times before and never had that problem. For the rest of the trip this time, every time I would toss or turn, I would reach over to feel where the mattress was and it had usually shifted an inch or so. Every time I would get up in the night, I would reposition it before I went back to sleep.

One of the other members in my group was in a twin bed in a regular or maybe a balcony cabin and he said he was thrown out of his, too. Rob, it was our buddy, The Rental, so a case or so of Coors Lite might have been a factor. :)

They weren't "real" injuries.... just my shoulder, hip and knee were bruised and I had twinges in one of my feet. It was just enough for me to decide that it might not be wise to go ashore and do a lot of walking. I was fine by the time I got back home, although still a little tender from the bruises. :)

Hi everyone,

I agree with Elaine, as a new member to the group and also a season cruiser looks like Jan/ Feb 2012 will be the ideal dates for a group cruise.

Also It will be my retirement (Nov 2011) cruise from the Army after over 25 years of Service.

This is the cruise my friend Laurie and I are doing this Febuary with the Maniacs. We booked it cuz supposedly it was going to be a limited itinerary! I'm really excited about these ports-they are all new to me except Grand Turk, which we didn't see that much of. We were there shortly after it was demolished by a hurricane a couple years ago. . .
