travelite Posted April 25, 2010 #1 Share Posted April 25, 2010 Is there any sensable way, using public transportation or a shuttle, from Tilbury cruise ship pier to Heathrow airport? We each have one average piece of luggage on wheels and a small carry on. The issue maybe the number of transfers and the time factor. Has anyone used a local Tilbury car service? If so, what was their fare to Heathrow?

If so, what was their fare to Heathrow? Yes, it is possible. The problem is that Heathrow is 15 miles west of downtown London, Tilbury about 40 miles east of downtown.. Take the tube (London Underground) into London eventually to Tower Hill or Aldgate Station, a short walk to Fenchurch St railway station, and then a train to Tilbury (followed by the shuttle bus from the station to port). The Londoners here can give you the optimum places to change lines, but a good map of London like google maps, shows both underground lines, and the main railway lines. Plus of course the iconic London Underground map: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/14091.aspx
elphin Posted April 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2010 From Tilbury cruise terminal, take shuttle to Tilbury Station. There purchase a ticket to Heathrow. Take train for Fenchurch Street. Get off train at Barking. Cross platform via underpass to district tube line and take tube for Ealing or Richmond. Change tube lines at Hammersmith [just walk across patform] and take Piccadilly line train to Heathrow. It's a fiddly journey and you will spend quite a bit of time on the tube but it is by far the cheapest way to go. The alternative is to hire a car at a cost of £70 see: http://www.24hourairporttransfer.com/pricing.html
aquilegia Posted April 25, 2010 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2010 I would imagine a taxi is going to cost you over £100.

As I thought, there are several transfers, and navigating from platform to platform, tube to train. I will purchase the ship's transfer. It is the most economical for two travelers. The car service is a good choice if there are 3 or 4 to share the cost.
