HAL Amsterdam to Anchorage

Sailing on May 31st and this will be the second of HAL's cruises to actually come into the port in Anchorage. The first sailing is May 17th. As I understand it the dock is some distance from the center of the tourist area (Egan Center, shops, etc.) I'd prefer not to take a taxi. Do you know what transportation will be available? My inquiries to HAL indicated that there will not be a free shuttle.

I will be watching the replies to this question also....as I go on June 28th. Maybe folks will post there experiences here when they get back.

I have communicated with the daughter of a friend in Anchorage and she didn't mention the difficulty of getting from the pier to town.

There will be shuttles running from the port to Egan Center 7am-9pm.Of course if you have booked a tour through HAL you will have preference. If you called or emaliled HAL about anything about Anchorage most HAL employees in Shore Excursions were cluless to what was going to happen in Anchorage.(including that we were docking there. They finally met with officials from Anchorage Tourism this month and got the correct information out.The thread is a generalized site for all up coming cruisers to ask and share information.Come join us!

I am on the May 17 cruise so will be on the first of the Amsterdam ships sailing into Anchorage.

If you go to the Alaska board there is a lengthy thread with all kinds of information about the Amsterdam being in Anchorage.

Thanks, great info. We've been looking forward to more time in Anchorage since most of our cruisetours have not left enough time to see the city!
