Penn Station...New York Sailing...Hotel?

Greetings to all. Can't help thinking about "the next big cruise." I am thinking about a train ride to Penn Station in NYC, staying nite in hotel, and then boarding the ship.

Does anyone out there know about good hotels near cruise terminal? We would have to take a cab from Penn Station to hotel...and hotel to cruise terminal?

Any opinions on a Canada/New England?

The primary means of transportation in Manhattan are taxis. Taxis in the city are plentiful and relatively cheap. You should stay at a hotel that is in the neighborhood that you prefer (certainly not on the west side near the cruise terminal) be it Times Square, Central Park area, etc. No matter where you stay your taxi fare will still be very reasonable when it comes time to go the port.

Which cruise terminal are you leaving from? There are two in New York proper; one in Manhattan, and one in Brooklyn. There ios also one in bayone NJ ("Cape Liberty")

If you are sailing from either of the NYC terminals, then Hank's advise is spot on; pick an area you would like to stay near (like Times Square), then look for hotels that fit your budget.

There is also a forum here specifically about East Coast departures; you will find plenty of ideas there.

Aloha,

There is a La Quinta Manhattan Hotel a block and a half from Penn Station. You could walk there from the train and then have quick access to any points in Manhattan that you would want to see before heading to Brooklyn the next day for your cruise. the hotel is nice and clean but what makes it extra special is that it is around the corner from the empire state bldg and has an amazing rooftop bar that has to be seen to be believed.
