m steve Posted May 9, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2010 Since there seems to be negative comments after drydock I wonder if this ship has problems as well.
trvlcrzy Posted May 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2010 We were aboard the Ryndam in April. We experienced no major problems. Of course, the Ryndam didn't get the aft refit and Retreat pool in this dry dock either. The ship left dry dock in February 2010, so if there were disastrous problems, I'm sure we would have read more about them. There were a few posts in the immediate weeks after the dry dock with a few problems listed, but I didn't see the major issues we had seen (edited to say: heard about) with other ships. doctork Posted May 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2010 We cruised the western Caribbean on Ryndam March 14 - 21, and experienced no trouble at all. Crew and ship were fine. The cabin stewards seemed overworked and a bit slower than before, but I don't think that is related to the drydock. Have a great cruise!
Sprocket Posted May 9, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2010 We just got off this morning, we were however only on for 4 days. We did not encounter any problems, no sewage problems or odors. We really enjoyed the Mix area and had a lot of fun on the games table. Food was good no complaints, service sometimes a little slow to non existent in some areas but no big deal. Pinnacle was much better this time. I was disappointed to not receive a tote bag this time, mine is wearing out and we did not receive a tile. I did remember to ask this time for my Mariner pin, and was able to get that from the Front Desk. I am assuming that because we came on in San Diego that is the reason we could not book a specific time or table in the MDR, we have never encountered this before, and since I have some food allergies I was disappointed in this and did note it on my comment card. We did not get the Survey on Smoking this time, and it was only a problem some evenings in the Casino which we have come to expect. All in all a relaxing getaway, but we are considering other lines for our next cruise.

Sprocket Posted May 9, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2010 Try X (Celebrity)!:) Thanks, I have been reading some very positive things about Celebrity and I think we probably will look at them for next time.
Winters in NZ Posted May 10, 2010 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2010 Having travelled aboard Epirotiki, Commodore, Princess, Costa, Norwegian, Celebrity and HAL, I have yet to meet any fellow passenger who did not express some type of complaint, imagined or otherwise. Disembarkation snafus, norvirus outbreaks and perhaps even pirate attacks could be considered as major incidents worthy of complaint. However, for the most part, perhaps with luck and some degree of patience, I have managed to thoroughly enjoy each of my 16 cruises. Everything being subjective, I do admit that my 4 HAL cruises on various DAM ships probably offered the best service and food of the above noted cruise lines. m steve Posted May 10, 2010 Author #8 Share Posted May 10, 2010 HAL must realize it can be a major choice for all groups of cruisers and not just for the anti smoking crowd.

fridayeyes Posted May 10, 2010 #10 Share Posted May 10, 2010 I just got off the Ryndam yesterday. She's in excellent shape, and we had a wonderful time. :)
mordev Posted May 10, 2010 #11 Share Posted May 10, 2010 My wife and I just got off the Ryndam yesterday....had a great time; ship is in beautiful condition, state rooms are like new, food and service were first class. Only warning; HAL has alot of seniors as customers (like me)...if you are looking for a lot of night life, try another line...otherwise you will enjoy!!!
