Using on-board credits

I've heard a few different people talk about the use of OBC's. It almost sounds like you have to wait until you board to be able to use OBC's for things like on shore excursion bookings. Is this true? Or can I go ahead and book my on shore excursions and beverage packages RIGHT NOW knowing I can pay for them with my OBC's?

You do have to wait until you are on board to us your OBC. Anything that you reserve/book now will be paid for with your credit card.

If you purchase them now you can't use your OBCs, they will ask for a credit card...

Basically, If you book prior to boarding, you pay via your credit card. If you make a booking after final payment, you pay for it usng a charge card. Same for drink packages and so on.

On Board Credit is added to your On Board account, usually showing up the 2nd day or so and pays for On Board charges.

If you cancel a excursion you'd booked prior and paid for prior, and cancel in time to get a refund, the refund it put on your On Board Account. It is refundable if not used.

It is refundable if not used.

That's the part that interests me, and which I would like to confirm, as I will have in excess of $2,400 in OBC due to price reductions after final payment dates, shareholder credits, etc. I have heard from a Celebrity rep that any excess OBC at the end of the cruise will be credited back to my credit card, which would save me a 3% trip to the casino.

The shareholder credit is not refundable. The rest should be. Someone just stated today that they did not receive a credit for a price drop OBC. I guess we have to watch this while on board. I think it would be something to resolve while on the ship.

It all depends on wher the OBC came from. If from a price reduction you would receive a credit back. As stated, if from a shareholder credit, it is use it or lose it. The questions would be which credits are applied first to purchases on board. I believe they would use any refundable credits, ie., price reduction credits first, so if your shareholder credit is what remains on your bill, there would not ba a monetary refund.....

I hope this is not too confusing

Actually, that makes perfect sense, and I wouldn't blame X at all if that's their policy. I will confirm when I board. I may still have to go to the casino late in the cruise and pay my 3% if that turns out to be the case. Don't want to just throw away $200. Thanks for all your input.

In fact, Celebrity uses the Non-Refundable OBC first and when that is used up, they start using the Refundable. I believe it shows up with an ® behind the Refundable and an (N) for non-refundable on the OBC readout on the TV. I forget.... but that's how it worked for us.

One person posted that they their refundable was beind deducted first and the non-refundable remained. So they talked to the Desk personnel, Celebrity realized they'd used the wrong one first, fixed it and gave them their unused portion. So it's very nice, they use up the OBC you can't get back and then start using the other. Worked nicely.

Our OBC bill came to $1.78 off a 10Day E Med cruise - loved it!
