Itinerary change on Saturday's(15/5) Oceana cruise West Med

Just checked my cruise personaliser and discovered we are docking at Cannes now instead of Monte Carlo.Very disappointed. We had booked a trip for Monte Carlo but it has been deleted from the shore excursions summary. We have received no email regarding this so I phoned them and they confirmed it. I asked if it would still be possible to visit Monte Carlo but he did not know. He did not know very much at all. He said they would probably send a letter advising of the change in the itinerary but we would possibly not receive it before Saturday! Surely an email would be quicker and easier.

Had my moan now I am going to continue getting ready for Saturday. Really excited now as it is our first cruise.

If anyone knows if we can still go to Monte Carlo from Cannes could you please let me know.

Thanks

Linda.

It is very easy to visit Monte Carlo from Cannes. We hired a driver who met us at the pier in Cannes. He took us first to St. Paul de Vence, then we went on to Monte Carlo, and had time to stop at Eze on the return.

Now that I've been to Monte Carlo, there is no reason to return. In retrospect it wasn't worth the effort to visit.

One other thing: you won't be 'docking' at Cannes, it's a tender port. You'll get tendered in to a jetty very close the Festival auditorium.

In fact - will you be there during the Cannes festival? Its dates are 12th to 23rd May.

.....and you might not even be tendering there either! On my Med cruise, we had Cannes and it was a lovely sunny morning, and the lifeboats couldn't be dropped due to sea swells....so we never even got into Cannes....spent all day sun bathing onboard off ANTIBES, we were disappointed too as we really wanted to go toMonter Carlo

- yes a trip to Monte Carlo will most likely be arranged its only a short distance away.

Wasn't really impressed with Monte Carlo, even less with St Tropez, overated in my opinion. Some of the other med ports are far superior.

Have to agree Richard.

Not at all impressed with monte Carlo.

Was there many years ago on the Splendour for RCCL.

Like you say, other ports much much better.

Enjoy your cruise, and dont be disapointed about monte carlo.

Its full of wanna-bees.

really.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The general feeling is that Monte Carlo is not all its cracked up to be so I think we'll give it a miss. We are in Cannes on the 23rd May (the last day of the Cannes Film Festival) Hopefully we will be able to go ashore and, who knows who we might meet . If we have the same problems as Sue I will have to do what I am good at which is relaxing with a nice glass of wine or, maybe, a cocktail or two. I am sure hubby won't mind having a beer and reading his book either.

Have to agree Del. I loved Monte Carlo. The Grand Prix is this weekend so would be interestng to see how much of the infastructure will still be there. I love my cars and i found it's history car and non car related very interesting. It's a shame you are not tendering in Villefanche. That is a beautiful bay.

I also must agree with Delboy ....we found Monte Carlo to be a lovely place...perhaps others who didn't never made it to the top of the hill to see the Palace and the Cathedral and admire the view (of the apartment blocks with swimmingpools and roof gardens) and then the walk down through the gardens back to the harbour where one can drool over the beautiful motor yachts!!!! We had a lovely icecream near the palace and a good coffee around the harbour near the casino....well worth a visit in our opinion!:)

The train track for Monte Carlo was undergoing maintenance a couple of weeks ago when Ventura was in Canne last and passengers were unable to travel by train to Monaco:mad:.

It may have been a one off thing but may be wise to check before planning anything, though I would have thought that it would be all done for the film festival and grand prix (as it's not network rail who are scheduling the work;)!)

Thats what we did we caught a bus to the top (it is walkable, but wife has difficulty), visited the Palace walk round to the Cathedral and then through those lovely gardens (the views are spectacular) to the Oceanographique, we picked up the little train that took us for a tour through the lower streets of Monaco, Casino etc, and then dropped us back at the Oceanographique (would loved to have gone in, if we had the time), we then walk down through more gardens to the harbour with all the yachts. A lovely day, would go back anytime.

I agree, we had a fabulous day in Monte Carlo.

We did the helicopter trip around the principality and into Italy, very expensive, but as a one off well worth it.

Walked around later and enjoyed all of the sights, took some photo's but not quite of your standard!
