12 Night Mediterranean Egypt Cruise - June 04, 2011 - Royal Caribbean

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody:

We are seriously thinking about taking the "12 Night Mediterranean Egypt Cruise" with Royal Caribbean - Mariner of the Seas on June 4th, 2011.

This route we believe used to be with "Splendour of the Seas"

We would like to have reviews of the route and the ship ;)

Thanks,

Emy

My suggestion is to post this on the Royal Caribbean Board.

Also, if you would like comments on the entire route I would list all of the ports.

I was on a similar cruise last fall. My only suggestion to you, which I wish someone would have given me, is : Look into a private over-night tour for Egypt. The ship rates for such an excursion is about 2 times more that a private company. The ONLY complaint i had about the private company is that they too want to get their cut on your shopping $ and so will discourage you from buying from small shops & street vendors. They will cut your time at the major sites to get you to "The special, best, place to shop" or "the govenment store". Taking an hour away from being at the pyramids to spend an hour at a store selling the same "stuff" we saw everywhere, and NOT at any better price, really annoyed me! HOWEVER - they were still a much better price than the ships excursion and went to the same places, and the hotel used was good enough. Given a chance at such a trip again I would try for a private tour with a smaller group - not a bus full, so that there would be more flexibility in time at the sites, and opportunities to stop at ramdom places of interest. I suggest that you find or begin a roll call site for your cruise and hook up with some like minded folks for excursion plans. Of all the ports that we visited it was Egypt that was the one most interesting and the one worth being the most particular about. I'd also pass up going to the Pyramid Lazer light show, and use that evening to do shopping - the shops at that site were open in the evening. Or, save shopping for the pier stalls right by the terminal at Alexandria - they had enough variety to suite my buying needs for self and family.

Thank you very much for the advice!;)
