Costa Nightlife?

I have asked the same question on the Celebrity board and thought I would throw it out here.

We are looking at a Med cruise (first timers) June 2011. For those of you that our experienced Costa cruisers-especially the Med what is the nightlife like at the end of the day. Specifically after dinner and the show have finished what are the clubs/bars like?

It seems as if on Celebrity after 10PM they pull the plug and it's nighty night!

There are a lot of bars open and have either live or piped music.

The actual night life depends entirely on the mix of passengers, someitmes goos and lively other times everyone is in bed by 10:00 pm.

We were on the fortuna last month and found the ship to be very lively. Lots of people dancing, listening to music, drinking, etc. We have been on 16 cruises and found this ship to be the most late night partiers of all.

I now travel on Costa almost exclusively, because nightlife is so much better. I neither drink nor smoke, but I don't find an objectionable amount of either.

I was on Celebrity once. I was fortunate to travel with a bunch of late-night people but otherwise, "roll up the sidewalks by 10 PM" seems to be if anything, an understatement.

After living in Italy for so many years the Europeans like to eat late and party late. As Costa has a strong leaning towards Italians what you say makes perfect sense. Also I just realized Costa do a couple of drinks packages, even better!:D

"dancing" ---- what kind? Foxtrot and Rhumba? or swaying in time with the music?

My wife and I do ballroom and Arg Tango, is why I ask.

Also- how smoky do these dance places get? I was on the Silver Wind two months ago and the tiny dance floor was surrounded by smokers; management was very unsympathetic

if you are a non smoker - don't go Costa. We just got off the Romantica and it was disgusting. We are also ballroom dancers. Music was at best mostly rumba and foxtrot. I think in the 14 days we heard one waltz and a couple of cha cha's - they musos just seem to play what they want. They knew we were dancers but they never put on anything you could really dance too. There is only one bar smoke free and it has no music. Most nights we gave up about 9pm when the smokers moved in. - mummsie

I have never been on a European cruise, but have traveled extensively in the Caribbean on Costa -- the Fortuna and Atlantica. Both ships are geared to dancers -- large dance floors, musicians who play ballroom music, and the music is pretty contiuous -- past midnight (unless there is a special activity in the lounge). In fact, we don't go to the shows because the musicians continue to play. Try to find that on other ships! When the musicians see a lot of dancers on board, they will often ask what we want to hear. They will play Argentine Tangos (or at least music suitable to do a Tango.) Both ships often have large dance groups on board who go on Costa because of the floors and music.

We are very sorry that the Fortuna won't be back in the Caribbean next year!!

As far as smoking, the large lounge on the Fortuna is smoke free on one side. Unless one sits near the smoking side, there is no problem. The Atlantica's lounge is all smoke free around the dance floor -- except in the back corner. The smaller lounges on both ships have smoke free areas (larger than the smoking areas). The last time we were on that ship, in fact, most of the casino appeared to be smoke free, too.

Again -- this is based on Caribbean experience -- the ships may do things differently in other parts of the world.

I completely agree with ladydancer. I'm a non-smoker, and I've never found the amount of smoking a problem. In fact, in the last couple of years, I've noticed that there's been a dramatic drop in the amount of smoking in Europe, western at least.

I've never done a Far East cruise, which may have been mummsie's experience.
