Heard02 Posted June 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2010 Hello. New to Norwegian. Not sure what to expect? Sailing on the Sky in a couple weeks. What can you tell me about the Sky?

Hikini Posted June 18, 2010 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2010 Unless they have changed things since we were on the Sky in 2003, it has a really great observation lounge complete with deck at the front of the ship which is great for sail away, or for viewing, etc. The Sky is the only NCL ship that we have been on that features this deck right off the Observation Lounge. (Back in 2003 that's what they called the lounge, but they might have given it a fancier name by now.) We also enjoyed the MDR at the back of the ship - at the time we sailed on the Sky it was called The Four Seasons or the Seven Seas or some such name, but has since gone through a couple remodels, so I don't know what it is called now.) But it is a bigger, nicer MDR than the one mid ship and offers better views while dining. (Same food as the other MDR.) Enjoy the Sky - it is one of the "older" ships in the fleet but has been updated and is a beauty nonetheless.
Peace2U Posted June 19, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2010 I couldn't tell she was older or smaller. Nice ship. We really enjoyed the splash pool and hot tub. Also the Great Outdoors cafe at the aft part of the ship is awesome. Very relaxing and fun place to be.
alwalaska Posted June 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2010 If you like easy listening guitar, go see Leo if he is still there. Go with reasonable expectations and you will have an amazing time. We really enjoyed our cruise on the Sky in March.
DAGVBSB Posted June 19, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 19, 2010 I was on the Sky when she became the "Pride of Aloha" in 2004. NCL originally had 3 ships in the Hawaii market. The Pride of America & Pride of Hawaii were new builds and the Norweigan Sky was given a million dollar remodel and rechristened the "Pride of Aloha." At the time of her rechristening in June 2004, she was the only American flagged cruise ship in operation. Three ships in Hawaii were too much for NCL to keep full and so they decided to move two of them out. The Pride of Hawaii was rechristened and became the Norweigan Jewel and the Pride of Aloha was rechristened back to the Norweigan Sky. They took the Hawaii museum out and put in a casino (ships in Hawaii cannot have casinos by law) but they have kept much of the Hawaiian decor on the ship. (including the flowered hull art.) I sailed on her for 12 days for the Pacific crossing to Hawaii on her maiden voyage. Yes she is a smaller ship, but still a very nice ship. The Great Outdoors Cafe is a nice change of pace and "Crossings" Main dining room is nicer than the Palace main dining rooms. The pool is smaller than some of NCL's other ships but still a great time. NCL usually has good shows in their theater as well. Of course, being new to the NCL, the most important difference from RCCL & Disney (the other lines your signature lists) is the Freestyle Concept. Please ask us if you have any questions about that. (I will gladly answer your questions, but don't want to bore you with details if you already know all about it.) Basically, it is open seating dining. You show up any time and ask for a table for your party. No assigned dining times, no assigned tables or tablemates and no mandatory formal nights. You will also find that with Freestyle disembarkation, you can stay in your stateroom until your color is called to disembark. (no being forced out of your room early in the morning and left to wander the ship...) Again, just ask if you have any questions!
