Plan for Nassau... Is this realistic??

We have narrowed down to a few things to do in Nassau. We booked to go to Blue Lagoon in the AM. Since the boat docks at 7, we thought to go there till 1 or 2. Then come back and do the walking tour and finish at the straw market. Then go back on board have dinner and head out to a casino (not sure which one???) since the boat is docked all night.

Is this too much? I have never been to Nassau but I figure the morning will be relaxing the afternoon some exercise then some fun at night,,,

Oh and in Freeport I figured to go to Garden of the Groves and explore bit.

Thoughts or suggestions?

I think this is definately realistic. We went to Blue Lagoon when we were in Nassau back in March (we did the Beach Day). We ended up booking on our own and going with the ship which we regret, but we arrived around 11 and we left on the 2pm ferry since we had to be back on the ship by 5 and thought the 4pm ferry would be cutting it close. If we were in port longer we probably would have done something like what you have planned. We definately could have spent more time at Blue Lagoon, but we still felt like we got to see everything and spend some time on the beach! You'll love Blue Lagoon - my advice is to go as early as you can since you'll never want to leave :)

Does anyone know where the Cloisters are located? Could you go Atlantis and still have time to see them? And our boat docks at 7 a.m. - is the straw market open that early?

The Cloisters are located on Paradise Island down from Atlantis. You could possibly do both, depending on how long you want to stay at Atlantis.

I don't know exactly what time the market opens, but I doubt it will be open at 7. We've docked around 9 am before and it was just getting started.

First ferry leaves at 8:30am then 10:30 am.. coming back they leave the island at 1, 2 and 4pm. Takes about 20 minutes each way.

Straw market opens around 9/9:30am and starts to close around 5/5:30 pm and will be closed tight by 6pm. Nothing will be open at 7am except Dunkin Donuts and Cafe Skans.

Cloisters are about 1/2 mile walk from Atlantis Marina Village. In the heat.. it can seem alot further. Maybe take a cab there and walk back.. Bring water bottles.

What is there to do if the boat docks at 7? What time do the cloisters open? I don't know what time we can check into Comfort Inn? What is the earliest they will let you? Otherwise- what do people do if there are no shops open?

I see you were there in March and did a Beach Day. We will be there in early March of next year....How was the weather/water.

Did someone mention DUNKIN DONUTS?!?!?!?!

The CLoisters is an open park.. it doesn't close.

Comfort suites will check you in at any time, but you won't get a room until 3pm. You can get your cards and go the the casino at Atlantis.

Pools don't open until 9am / waterpark opens at 10am.

There really isn't much to do before everything opens up around 9ish.

Dunkin Donuts is located across the street from the British Colonial Hitlon Entrance.

Walk along the wharf to Senor Frogs, make a left and walk to the next main road. It's on the corner.

Well, our perspective of the weather will likely be a little different than yours. We're from Canada so we left a lot of snow behind in March. The weather was around 80 and the water was nice - it's an actual lagoon so it wasn't deeper than my waist standing up and since it wasn't too deep it wasn't cold. I'm a pretty big wimp when it comes to swimming in cold water so it really was a little refreshing but fine. I floated in an inner tube around the lagoon for a while but had no problem getting in the water. When we stopped in Freeport and went snorkeling a lot of people found it to be cold. It was colder than I would have liked there, but since we were busy snorkeling it ended up being ok (cold when we got out though). Hope that helps! We LOVED Blue Lagoon Island!

Thanks Scubagirrl! You just mentioned two of my favorite places!! Guess I will have to hit Dunkin Donuts in the morning and Senor Frogs around lunch. Is there any websites you can recommend that can give me a clue as to what to do in Nassau?

Go do the walking tour in the morning while the temperture is at its coolest.

You'll wind up back at the pier area around 8:30-9AM....

The Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle have always been open when we have done the tour that early.

Everything else should be open by the time you get back to the pier.

I agree the tour should be done before the heat of the day, but that early in the am, the homeless are still lying around the fort and staircase. I wouldn't venture up that way until at least 8am.. maybe later.

The ecomomy has hit the bahamas hard. You'll see far more evidence of poverty in the off roads than you had in the past.

So I am about to send in my payment to Blue Lagoon but you have to fax you credit card info. Has anyone had problems with this?

So from responses below, it looks like my plan should work? The reservation for Blue Lagoon says that it starts at 830 to I figure about 5 hours there? Then come back and do the walking tour and finish at the straw market....

My question is about casinos. Is there a casino that is close? And which one is recommended? Are taxis safe at night? If anything we would have dinner on the ship then go to the casino for a few hours. be back by 10 at the latest... Thanks!!!!

I didn't have any problems sending my payment to Blue Lagoon. You can email or call them afterwards to make sure they received it.

There are two casinos - Atlantis and Crystal Palace. Neither one is close but it's not a bad cab ride. We were in Nassau on Saturday and went to Atlantis in the evening. Cabs are safe. They pick you up and drop you off right at the dock. If you haven't seen Atlantis, I'd recommend their casino just so you can see it. The glass sculptures are amazing. We've been to Crystal Palace a couple of times but during the day. It's not as pretty but it's still fun. You might find cheaper tables at Crystal Palace.

$4 a person plus tip. There are plenty of taxis to take you there and back.

Also remember that most of the cabs are vans and they like to fill them up (about 8-10 people) before they leave for wherever you are going.

(I can't blame, them after seeing how much they pay for gas on the islands.)
