Tours from London

Recommended Posts

We used Harry Norman @Londons Tours - Personally managed by Harry offering London Day Tours & London City Tours - Homepage. Harry is wonderful...we felt after our day with him we had been touring with a friend not a guide. Besides having great command of culture and history, Harry has a great wit about him that makes the day truly fun!!!

We are thinking of doing a day tour from London to Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Oxford. Has anyone used Viator or Evan Evans tours? Were you satisfied with them?

I can't speak to those two tour firms, but I wanted to strongly encourage doing day-trip options from London. You can do Windsor and Oxford independently on your own by quick rail trips. The Cotswold are also super great and well worth considering in your options, plus Blenheim Palace in that area. I have heard from others that Stonehenge is well-known, but that going there is limited as your access is somewhat restricted on this site. It depends what you seek and like. Here are a couple of visual samples on these many great options nearby to London.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Here’s a sampling of the fun from the country-focused Cotswolds, including the sights in Burton-on-the-Water, old buildings in a cute village and spectacular Blenheim Palace where Winston Churchill was born and many films have been shot:

I have not used them. I believe that Viator are just selling the tour operated by Evan Evans. Others operating similar coach tours to Windsor, Stonehenge, and Oxford are http://www.premiumtours.co.uk/ and http://www.goldentours.co.uk/ . Coaches depart from Victoria Coach Station. Pick up at or near your hotel may be available. The tour will end at Victoria Coach Station, not at your hotel. Some tours charge extra for admission to Stonehenge and Windsor Castle. Please realize that there will be more than 4 hours of coach travel involved and time at each attraction will be limited. Bad reviews of these tours seem to involve tourists being left behind and the unavoidable limited time at each attraction. Confirm your reservation the day before and make certain your tour has not been canceled due to lack of participants.

When we were in London last year, we used Even Evans tours for our Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge tour, and we loved every minute of it. Yes, it is like a ships tour, in the sense as you ahve bus loads of people descending on whichever town you are going to, but if this was your one and only chance to experience these 3 places, go for it. We searched the Internet before we booked and found this website http://www.discount-london-tours.com/?cat=full+day+tours&tn=S21&gclid=CMXq4ITttp8CFZdM5QodwCMZzg. It IS Even Evans tours, just using a different name and a cheaper price. They pick you up and certain spots, and shuttle you to Victoria Bus station where you will then get the regular bus to where ever you are bound. They Are very professional and use all top notch guides. They will put on a many buses as needed to accommodate however many people are there. On the day we went there were 3 full busloads going.

Here are a few of my pix of our adventure.

We tried another option during our precruise London stay a few weeks ago...we decided to visit and explore Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath on our own.

Our group of eight hired Airport-Connect London to pick us up from our hotel in central London and take us to these wonderful sites. Jeff Palmer was a pleasure to work with...an excellent driver and the perfect host. His vehicle was roomy and comfortable. He provided us with a prepaid cell phone to call him when we were finished with our site visits, and lunch at a great pub, and he picked us up and wisked us to the next stop.

I would definitely recommend Jeff and his company, and would use them again for any future trip to London!

By the way, I totally agree with Len...Stonehenge is absolutely fascinating! You can't get right up to touch the stones, but you can get fairly close...close enough to feel the majesty of the formation.

The fact that we didn't have to share the venue with a busload of other people at the same time, added immensely to the experience. We were able to take lots of photos of members of our group in front of the stones without intrusion by other tourists. And, the admission price includes earphones that provide a complete self-guided tour, outlining the known history, and the mythology, of Stonehenge.

It was an experience we will never forget!

I booked the tour with Evan Evans using the discount website suggested here. The more private tours sounded good but since there are only the 2 of us, the cost was a bit too high. Thanks for all the invaluable information and the pictures all of you provided.

I have had several 'polite' discussions on this site about Stonehenge. some think it is no big deal, and not worth the time it takes to even view it. That may be so for some, but it was a place, sort of on my 'Bucket List' of places I just wanted to see before I leave this earth. I was enthralled by it, and only wish we could have stayed longer. It was our last stop on our tour, so we were there a bit later than most other tours, and there weren't as many people there. Was pretty windy and cool, but the sun was shining as enjoyed our time there immensily.

Cheers
