mollycruise Posted June 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2010 We are arriving in Livorno on July 4th and want to go to Florence on our own--is there a "best way" to get to Florence. The trip to Florence is expensive if you take it through the Royal Carribean Cruise line .... We just have the day in Florence. We are on the Brilliance of the Sea. thank you Wendy
alexandra cruiser Posted June 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2010 the bus is cheaper ,but too long a ride....google Italian trains for schedules and prices...is it for this 4th? Also, get a good guidebook to find out what you want to see...or check Florence tourism site for private guides....really depends on how much time you have to see city, take train, and get back to ship....just allow enough time so you don t rush....remember its very crowded and long lines...some sites you can get internet tickets.....if not possible on own due to above problems...DO at lest take ships tour,,,worth every penny, rather than missing it...

maryann ns Posted June 21, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2010 Just be well aware that you cannot begin to experience all that Florence has to offer in a day. Settle for just a taste.
CathyCruises Posted June 21, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2010 I would definitely try to prebook tickets to the Accademia to see the David--well worth it! And it is a very small museum, won't take up too much of your day. Lots of threads here on how to get to the train station from Livorno and catch the train into Florence--it is very easy to walk around on your own from the Santa Maria Novella station; everything major is within 15-20 minutes' walk. Susan-M Posted June 21, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2010 I would definitely try to prebook tickets to the Accademia to see the David--well worth it! I agree...it's very impressive! If you don't want to visit anything else in the museum, it will only take 1/2 hour with a pre-booked time (without a booking, the wait can be up to 2 hours). Here's a link to the website with info on reserving an entry time by phone.
