JOHN 57 Posted June 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2010 Hello, my wife and I will be visiting Barbados on 12 December, and I always try the local beer. Does anybody have any suggestions, what the locals drink. Thank you, John
Aplmac Posted June 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2010 The locals all drink BANKS, a light lager, stuff you can down by the gallon almost. Helps with rehydration ;) -at least that's what most guys tell their wives. There are other regional lagers available on the island -each island tends to make its own, and they all get marketed by each other. So you won't suffer too badly. Just remember to replace all that perspiration! .

V n C Posted July 1, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Lol, I believe there are two rum factories and one beer (Banks) factory on the island. The great thing about Banks is if you are staying on the island they will deliver to where you are staying ( a plastic carrying case that holds 24 bottles). When you start getting low you just put the carton with the empties outside your front door, give em a call and they'll swing by and replace it. klepton Posted July 6, 2010 #6 Share Posted July 6, 2010 One thing I'll add to the conversation, in the port right where you walk into the building from town will be a bar, I believe it's the one pictured above. When I was there they were selling banks for $3/bottle. Walking 20 feet to a little drink/ice cream shop back behind one of the surrounding buildings I found banks for $2. When you drink as much as me that savings adds up. :)

Grego Posted July 14, 2010 #10 Share Posted July 14, 2010 We always felt that when in Barbados there was only one beer we should be drinking along with our flying fish and that' Banks Beer. Not sure if it's the flying fish or the Banks beer that made the meal - so we are going to keep trying this combination until we figure it out. Excellent scientific procedure.Continue with experiment until empirical evidence is obtained. ;) I'm not a beer drinker at all, but I'm reliably informed by many a local expert in the field that Banks is a refreshing light lager that can be poured down one's neck in impressive quantities until desired effect is obtained! Excellent for rehydration in a sweaty climate, its alcohol content is rather low (good factor in hot sun!) -low to the point where some bad boys have referred to Banks as "sex in a boat!" Sex in a boat?? -- yeaahh, it's F***ing close to water! They're kidding of course, but you get the point. __________________________________________________ Having just consulted the labelling on a bottle of the stuff in my fridge I see the alcohol content declared at 5% -I thought it was less...around 4-point-something. So there you have it --all the gory details...Sorry! :D .
