prattmom Posted July 1, 2010 #51 Share Posted July 1, 2010 AND for all of you who should be sailing away right now but aren't and is showing a great attitude all I can say is that you are a great example to your children. Because you are showing them how to handle things in a positive way. A+ to all of you. Totally agree!
spleenstomper Posted July 1, 2010 #52 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Although it does suck royally to have a 2 port cruise changed to a cruise to nowhere! Can't they make 1 port? I'm sure I'd make the best of it, but I'd have a little pouty fit in private first... And I hope they can get hotel rooms... insurance can't make rooms appear (though I do understand insurance will absorb the cost).
nonna5 Posted July 1, 2010 #53 Share Posted July 1, 2010 This cruise was only a one port cruise. And no they cannot make it to Cozumel in a 3 day cruise.

My daughter had actually been invited to go with a big group of recent HS graduates, but she decided not to go since we are leaving on the Conquest July 11. Hunwolf Posted July 1, 2010 #56 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Considering that when fog had both the Conquest and the Voyager stuck in Galveston for a couple of days several months ago and RCL only gave their passengers the option of leaving the ship or staying on-board with no OBC I think that Carnival is being generous. 25% refund and 25% future cruise credit comes to 50% BTW - I'm a card carrying L2R Fan (Loyal to Royal) You weren't a stats major were you? ;)
msunrullieone Posted July 1, 2010 #57 Share Posted July 1, 2010 sorry, thought I had posted a complete post about 25 % off too. Am using a new smartphone, just cause the phone is smart doesn't guarantee the operator is too! Didn't mean to mislead or appear whiney! Lol We decided to stay 1 more nite and try again. We think carnival is doing the best they can. Our friends got really mad and went home. We found a room fairly easy & even got a discount. Think they felt sorry for us! duchessuta Posted July 1, 2010 #63 Share Posted July 1, 2010 One of the pilots on the boat you have seen that says pilot boards the ship when coming and going from port. The pilot boat is not guiding it is travelling alongside the ship to pick the pilot back up once they are cleared from a certain distance from port. I have some interesting pics of the pilot getting off the ship while underway. Next cruise you take watch the pilot boat and see what side it pulls up to the ship and watch the pilot get off your ship and back onto his boat all while moving  Wow....I totally did not know this! Thanks for your response. :) But why doesn't the Captain of the ship do this?
txgolfergrl Posted July 1, 2010 #64 Share Posted July 1, 2010 I've seen it said on here many times that, if you choose to cruise, you better be flexible. ANYTHING can happen. Also, for all those worried about rooms in Galveston, there should be plenty but, if not, just drive up 45 a few minutes and you'll see a hotel/motel every mile. I live not far from I-45 and Bay Area. There are TONS of motels on Bay Area, east of 45. Just an FYI for those that may not know the area.
spleenstomper Posted July 1, 2010 #65 Share Posted July 1, 2010 My bad... Thought is was a progreso/Cozumel cruise. Yeah I guess. Ruise to nowhere is the only option.
firefly333 Posted July 1, 2010 #66 Share Posted July 1, 2010 My PVP just emailed me they want $279 and up to book the cruise to nowhere. Evidently not enough people have cancelled yet.

I wonder if I could talk DH into it. He has a golf outing scheduled for Saturday, but it is supposed to rain here all weekend.
Scorpian Posted July 1, 2010 #68 Share Posted July 1, 2010 Two years ago we were loaded on the Conquest to leave and they could not sail due to fog. We did not get to leave until the next day. We missed one port. Carnival was GREAT! They gave on board credits and the last night they opened all of the bars and had music at them and we all had free drinks!!!! We had to stay on the ship that first night but the bars were open...just not the casino! Carnival was great!

Union controls the harbor, not Carnival's pilot.
Ship Addict Posted July 1, 2010 #70 Share Posted July 1, 2010 So their 3-day cruise to nowhere special is $449 for an inside cabin. You have got to be kidding me. Little bit proud of their ship aren't they? As much as I would love to, I just can't drop $1000 on an itty-bitty 3 day trip that doesn't even go anywhere! Maybe the rates will go lower later in the day if a bunch of people cancel.

jhale Posted July 1, 2010 Author #72 Share Posted July 1, 2010 I can't get over how high the prices are for a last minute cruise to nowhere. I wish they were still $99, that'd make for a great long holiday weekend!
