blue manc Posted July 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2010 We will be on the Sea Princess in October, sailing from San Francisco to Barbados, we will be calling into Fort Lauderdale, 7 a.m to 5 p.m. We want to go to Sawgrass Mill outlets. Is it far from the port and how much will it cost in a taxi.

Is it far from the port and how much will it cost in a taxi. Sawgrass Mills is quite a ways from the port. My guess for one-way taxi fare (I have not made that particular trip in a cab) is $40 plus tip.
royalcruz Posted July 4, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Probably about $100 round trip.
blue manc Posted July 4, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Thanks Flaham and Royal Cruz for your help.Have you any suggestions where to spend a couple of hours that is close to the ship ?
megr1125 Posted July 4, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Las Olas Boulevard... Galleria Mall (actually the 'bargains' at Sawgrass would be eaten up by the taxi fare...and that is IF you find any bargains. IMO you can do just as well hitting the sales in any mall..... http://www.galleriamall-fl.com/ very close to the port, maybe $15-20 cab ride depending on traffic.... Macys and Dillards often have very good sales.... on the mall link, click on tourism and there is a way to get a form to get a book with special offers... Many Macys stores also will give a discount to out of town visitors....not sure if this one does, but it might be worth checking on line http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/ also very close....same approximate cab fare....probably NOT as many bargains as you'd find at the galleria...but its an idea. Or you could just hit the beach!

Or you could just hit the beach! Yes, that would be my idea of a great day! I would not expect to find ANY bargains on Las Olas, but it is a nice place to take a stroll if the weather is nice. If the weather is dull, or if you want to find some bargains compared to UK shopping, go to Galleria. If you are in town on a Sunday, you will not find any shops open before noon. Any other day, they open at 10 AM. If you get to Las Olas earlier than that, the Floridian is open for breakfast(24 hrs).

FLAHAM Posted July 4, 2010 #8 Share Posted July 4, 2010 Lunch and a shopping/looking stroll along Las Olas is a fine way to kill two or three hours. In the event that you are enthusiastic gamblers, I recommend spending the day at the Seminole Hard Rock casino complex.
Silvery Seas Cruiser Posted July 4, 2010 #9 Share Posted July 4, 2010 The Seminole Hard Rock has shops too.

I would agree..spent a couple hours there one day...signed up for the players club, wound up getting 50 of their credits to spend, and cashed out and left with about $120...i think I spent $30 actual US of My dollars.... I was there mid day and it wasn't terribly crowded....pretty nice facility IMO. There are some shops there, but not a huge variety.....

The way it works now is that you sign up and get the card and have to earn 25 points on the card using your own money, which cost me $30 on a slot machine. THEN you swipe the card in a Player's Club machine and get dollar credits added to your card that you can either gamble with or cash out (at least $25 but you can get more if you are lucky) :D They also give you $5 on your card to spend on free food or merchandise when you sign up. At least that is what happened this week.
