Rental cars at Port in Miami

Has anyone ever rented a car in Miami at the Port? My husband and I are sailing on the Triumph on February 26th, 2005 and when we dock on March 5th we would like to rent a car for the day. We then want to return it the next morning to the airport in Fort Lauderdale since that is where we will be flying out of. If there is nothing at the port, how do you handle a rental? How do you get to the car rental place?? Will they come pick you up???? HELP!!!!

No more car rentals at the port. You take the free shuttle to pick one up at the airport.

Ok, but I just went on Hertz car rental site and they listed Port of Miami as a location for car rental. Do they mean something different?

Hetz may be one of the agencies that have the free shuttle. THere once were lots of car rentals at the pier but they have been gone for at over a year.

The Hertz shuttle from the pier takes you to an off-site location at 354 1st Street, which is less than 2 miles/5 minutes from the pier. You don't go all the way back to the airport, and you can return at FLL. The shuttle runs through the weekend, every half hour from 8AM to 4PM.

I used the Hertz Rental as noted above, on Jan. 8th and 16th When we used it, it ran every 15 minutes. Basically the time it takes to load your luggage, drive there and unload and return...
