babyher Posted July 9, 2010 #204 Share Posted July 9, 2010 Just a thought What would have been so terrible if any of those people in that elevator simply said "My cruise is great how about yours?" And maybe the kids would have said the same thing. What would have been so wrong with that ? It wouldn't cost anyone a single dime It wouldn't have caused Cancer, or a threat to National Security. Just Good old fashioned simple small talk. But no these were kids in an elevator and beneath some people to talk with. It wasn't like they were being rude or asking dirty questions. LemurCat Posted July 9, 2010 #206 Share Posted July 9, 2010 What do you mean Lemure Cat? Meaning if you a post objectionable, there is a little red triangle on the upper right hand corner of the post. Report it to a moderator. Let them deal with it. Otherwise, the whole "would your parents approve?" line will bring out more derision than respect. My parents would rather I be honest than nice for the sake of being nice. And seriously? Why can't you spell my username correctly. It's not like you didn't quote it or anything.

Ashpalo Posted July 9, 2010 Author #208 Share Posted July 9, 2010 I can post two more that you should understand but I'd be banned. :p Based on Steelerfan's join date, she is brand new to the boards. Also, from some of her posts in other threads, it appears that she might be new to "Internet lingo". Let's cut her some slack, please. Steelerfan - welcome to Cruise Critics. Please don't let the banter on these boards get to you. Ashley :-)

I'm sorry if I assumed they were garbled. Please tell me what you meant by Myob. Why don't you do a Google search and see what comes up. Also, a word of advice. I would suggest lurking ... reading a lot of posts and catching onto the culture of the board. Might ease the transition instead of asking ten thousand questions and opening yourself up to people who will make fun of you for asking.

I don't know how to get to the Google page. But I will ask my daughter-in-law when she gets back. And thank you for the advice but I don't know what you mean by lurking? I am sorry for asking so many questions. I always thought there was no such thing as a dumb question. But no worries noone has made fun of me for asking I don't think they mind. Steelerfan, I tried to find a link to the list of accronyms on this site, but couldn't find it. You might want to look at the very top of the screen for the link that says "FAQ" - read that section and it will help you to understand a lot of what goes on on Cruise Critics. I was just like you when I joined and 3 years later, I still have to look up things to find out what they mean. Here is the link for google: http://www.google.com Ashley :-)

WOWGirl Posted July 9, 2010 #219 Share Posted July 9, 2010 I gotta say. This was silly. They are just kids. NO biggie. Although I agree with you about spraying them with tomato juice. LOL I think people should lighten up. Remember we were kids once and wanted to have some laughs with our friends. I would have probably played along with them on my ride up/down the elevator. I dont think it is a reflection on the kids or how they are raised. I think what they were doing was harmless. Oh well, I guess I just like to laugh too still. onthehighseas606 Posted July 9, 2010 #220 Share Posted July 9, 2010 I was searching for videos on YouTube for the Elation and came across this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvyTe6Q_ljo If you can suffer through it - notice how the poor innocent "victims" immediately get back off the elevator. I think I will have to bring a spray bottle of tomato juice in case I run into these kiddos!!! Ashley :) Brats!!! That's why I don't like cruising with bratty kids like that and I have been on 1 or 2 where the hellions run a muck. On one of the elevators (and I saw it), one of kids stuck their ice cream cone onto the elevator floor keys. I take the stairs and avoid the elevators--better for me physically and mentally. If the kids had been without the camera, I bet that everyone on that elevator would have responded much more kindly to them and probably would have engaged in conversation with them. For me, the camera makes the difference. jmo...I don't like cameras in my face. This goes for the videographer on the ship as well...but then, they don't corner people in an elevator. To me, it was rude
bplazo Posted July 9, 2010 #222 Share Posted July 9, 2010 I agree that if they had not had the video camera and was asking in a nice tone about your vacation than I would not have had a problem answering their question or engaging them in a conversation. They were being obnoxious on purpose. Sometimes I just love to sit and people watch and when I see misbehaving kids I am just so happy that they are not mine. :) I love to watch the misbehaving adults also. babyher Posted July 10, 2010 #223 Share Posted July 10, 2010 See I guess I am just used to it with my own kids . My youngest DS will get in a mood and take out his camera or cell phone and walk artound the house being goofy. "And here is my dad working in the garage .What are you doing Dad ?" "Replaceing the screen in the front door????? COOL!!! Was that your major in college? Quite the little documentary maker *LOL* When I was a kid one of my buddys and I used to take an old cassette recorder and stage these dumb shows with all kinds of sound effects *LOL* (Guess the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree :)) As long as they weren't being cruel or nasty with people , I guess I just would have gone along with the fun. :)
billie5 Posted July 10, 2010 #224 Share Posted July 10, 2010 Susan, I appreciate your honest response, and of course you may be correct. There is no way to know for sure the mental status of the youngster. However, I am just surprised that in nearly 200 responses no one even wondered about the issue I raised. (You realize, I hope, that if he were really 16, there would be no need for him to calculate anything!) And, actually, I do know quite a bit about the failure of many jurisdictions to carry out IDEA (or, in this case, its predecessor, 94-142), including some state-wide failures, but I am not going to name states or areas. I am also not a special ed teacher, but I have represented my county on a multi-city/county state agency dealing with mental retardation and mental health for many years. Unfortunately, I have heard of all sorts of misguided behavior (Perhaps I should use the word abuse, but I am trying to be non-confrontational) in the education of the handicapped. Multiple years in kindergarten would be far from the worst. Bill
viaggi_per_mare Posted July 10, 2010 #225 Share Posted July 10, 2010 On more than one occasion when we have had problems with anyone on the ship, we just take a picture that works very well. We were annoyed at the slot machines in the casino by children of about 12 playing the slots around us. We merely took a picture and brought it to the casino desk - problem solved. Kids in the adult only serenity area...if you go to someone, they will tell you that is no allowed and not possible....that is when you take out the camera and show them. In this situation, if we were annoyed, we would have taken our video camera out (great that hard drive cameras make this easy) and filmed the activities going on in the elevator - you would be surprised how fast bad behavior for children (and adults) stop when their behavior is filmed. Instead of having to intervene, just take the film to the nearest security and show them. Most times this works much better than "your oral rendition" of what they are doing.
