bazzaw Posted July 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2010 Love snorkelling - have done it on Great Barrier Reef and in the Pacific Islands. Just wondering what people think about snorkelling on these 2 islands - and which they prefer. Or is it better to skip the snorkelling and concentrate on the sightseeing. Don't really need to do the beach/sun thing in either place. Barry
bazzaw Posted July 11, 2010 Author #2 Share Posted July 11, 2010 C'mon - don't be shy. Surely someone has been to Aruba and/or Barbados?? :o Barry
LEESRE Posted July 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2010 Find that Barbados is much better than Aruba. In Aruba the sand is so soft that it impedes the vision.
bazzaw Posted July 11, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks for that - yes, I have found the soft sand to impede water clarity in other parts of the world . Barry
capasamari Posted July 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2010 On Barbados we went on the P&O "swimming with turtles" excursion, they are so large you hardly need your snorkel! It was good, though a bit crowded, and I have read that if you book it privately locally you'll have a more exclusive experience. On Aruba we went on the P&O "De Palm Island" excursion, which is basically a day at an all-inclusive beach resort, where the main attraction for us were the blue parrot fish. If you've never seen them they are a sight to behold as they are the size of a dinner plate. We fed them scrambled egg from the breakfast buffet at the restaurant on stilts over the sea. You can also snorkel from a platform. Aruba is not a particularly pretty island for sightseeing; friends of ours went on a round-the-island trip and were disappointed and said we'd probably made the right choice.
