Hotel near Marco Polo Airport with good public transport to near St. Mark Square?

Our ship (RC Vision) will be docking in Venice after an eastern Med cruise this October. We will be flying back home from Marco Polo early (7:00 AM) the next morning, so basically we have a 1/2 day in Venice. (We will have a day there before cruise and have been there before a couple of times.)

We want to get an inexpensive hotel near the airport for that reason, with good public transport to near St. Mark's Square...train or bus.

I looked in Cheap Tickets and it looks like the Crowne Plaza near airport may fit the bill.

Anyone tried it? Or have other suggestions?

Thanks.

With only a half day, why do you care about transit to St. Mark's? You can check your luggage at Piazzale Roma and head off for the rest of the day, and only go to the hotel when you're ready to pack it in for the night. Why waste timing going out there, then back, then out again?

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott near the airport post cruise. We took the shuttle from the ship to P.Roma, then the airport bus to the Marriott. There is a bus every 15-30 minutes from the Marriott to P.Roma where you can walk or go by water to SanMarco. The Marriott has a free shuttle to the airport, but get to the lobby early as the shuttle is small and fills quickly.

...been there and done that.

We don't mind walking and have no problem walking to/from St. Mark's from/to the train station.

We just like the idea of not having to worry about dragging our bags around at the end of a long day.

Bus or train will only get you so far anyway -- once you get to Piazzale Roma, you have to either walk or go by water to get to San Marco.

If it were me, I would get off the ship and take a taxi or bus straight to the hotel and leave my bags, then catch Alilaguna for the ride back to Venice proper--great trip across the water. That way you can enjoy yourself all day and either cab or Alilaguna back to the hotel in the evening.

Dining in Venice is extraordinarily expensive, with pasta dishes being in the $25 range; the hotel recommended Crazy Pizzeria about two blocks down, and we had a fun dinner there, with prosecco, wine, and dessert, for about $35 total--quite a good deal!

we stayed at the titian hotel 900 mts from the airport .it's a small hotel with great reviews on tripadviser.it has a bus stop right outside the hotel and they have a paid shuttle to the airport . it is a lot cheaper than most hotels near the airport.

it's a basic hotel with small rooms but has fantastic service and in great location.
