Bus from airports to Rome

We usually discuss the train from FCO to Rome, but there is a bus option as well, from both FCO (aka Leonardo Da Vinci or Fiumicino) and Ciampino. The bus may be an attractive alternative for those who are uncomfortable with the ticketing and/or luggage issues associated with train travel.

There are tradeoffs, of course. While the bus is less expensive (8 Euro one way, 15 Euro round trip vs. 14 Euro each way by train), it takes longer (about an hour, vs. 35 mintes) and is subject to traffic issues.

Luggage is easier, however, as it is stored in the compartment under the bus, so there's no need to drag it up and down the train steps, or figure out where to put it and how to keep your eye on it.

Also, on the bus you are guaranteed a seat, which is not true on the train.

Finally, while no place on earth is truly "safe" from petty crime, I'd guess that you are far less likely to encounter it on a limited stop bus service that checks tickets as passengers enter, vs. public buses, trains and metros that can be boarded without a ticket.

The bus makes two stops in Rome; one at Termini train station (Via Marsala), and the other next to Castel Sant'Angelo (Piazza Cavour).

This is good information, thank you. We did not know this. We seldom take the direct Leonardo express from Rome to Termini. We prefer the local stopping train. As I recall it is about 8E vs about 15E for the Leonardo. We like the 'local' because we can get off at alternate stops that are closer to our accomodation that Termini, or switch trains at other stations if we are heading to Cinque Terrre without having to go thru Termini.
