Getts Posted July 26, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Hi! I know there's a fish fry in Oistins on Friday nights but what is there to do during the day? I'm looking at a tour that includes a stop in Oistins. I think it said something about feeding the turtles but do you swim with the turtles? Are there shops? restaurants? Any information will help. Thanks
Aplmac Posted July 26, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Hi! I know there's a fish fry in Oistins on Friday nights but what is there to do during the day? ===> Not a lot. I'm looking at a tour that includes a stop in Oistins. I think it said something about feeding the turtles but do you swim with the turtles? ===> Not sure, but don't think so Are there shops? restaurants? Any information will help. During the day, Oistins reverts to just what it really is -a local, very local, fishing village. The nightly fish-fry things gets kinda touristy, with local vendors mounting their stalls of handicrafts etc, so that aspect of shopping is there (at night..) but DAY-shops? forget it! - it's just not much of a tourist-town other than the nocturnal fish-fry thing which happens every night, but Friday is The Biggie. Restaurants? a few fast-food joints --and rum-shops where you might get the real local thing. Just a quarter-mile East of the town proper, however is Miami Beach, a popular beach -this shot taken from the other side of town looking back towards the beach and the town just beyond,at left The small yellow structure is the lifeguard sta. at Miami Beach.. Any feeding of turtles is probably done from the fishing jetty where the turtles no doubt mooch around, hoping for scraps from the (smelly) fish-market! You wouldn't want to be swimming around the fish-market pier: rocky bottom for starters! A tour through or including Oistins would be the way to go but I wouldn't plan on spending much time there, simply coz there isn't much to do after spending 10 mins. taking a few photos to say you've been there. Just being perfectly frank with you. ;) .
Getts Posted July 27, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted July 27, 2010 Well then - it's probably a 10 minute stop to feed a turtle or 2 and take a quick photo. Thanks for the info!
Aplmac Posted July 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2010 Well then - it's probably a 10 minute stop to feed a turtle or 2 and take a quick photo. Yes exactly! -which is why the tour you mention simply "includes" Oistins and doesn't hang there for an hour! ;)Now you know. .
