Holbrook, NY to Cape Liberty Terminal

For all the departures from Bayonne, it really is not that important overall from the perspective of suburban travel (compared to transportation to and from Manhattan). I know of nothing convenient. The only thing I can think of is going by train, either to Jersey City or Bayonne, and save on the fare that way. You probably know the route already: Ronkonkoma via LIRR to New York or Brooklyn, walk or subway to PATH, PATH to Exchange Place, Jersey City, then either taxi from Exchange Place or light rail to Bayonne, then taxi.

I am coming from Long Beach, Ny Oct 24. I am planning on the LIRR option. Its just my husband and me and we can pack in one rolling suitcase each. We are sailing out of Bayonne but back home flying for Puerto Rico into JFK so we don't want to leave a car in Bayonne.

jled - could you be more specific about your plans? LIRR to Penn Station? And then what? Are you considering walking or cabbing to Path at 33rd and 6th and going to Hoboken and then the light rail to Bayonne?

By Train

Take the PATH train from Manhattan to Jersey City or Hoboken. Outside the PATH Station, take the NJ Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train to Bayonne. Get off at the 34th Street Station in Bayonne. You are now directly across Route 440 from The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor, which includes the Cape Liberty Cruise Port. Call one of the three Bayonne cab companies to drive you to the cruise port, which is about two miles east of the Light Rail line.

I guess we will walk from Penn to the Path train and then take a cab from Bayonne. We only plan on one rolling suitcase, so it should be pretty manageble. My kids do it when they come in from college from Port Authority to Penn, so I guess I can do it too :). I really can figure out any other way other than a car service $$$$$ or taking a car service from Penn Station to Hoboken ( a few less $$ ) What cruise are you on???

If you exit Penn Station on 7th Ave, it's just one Avenue over to Path on 6th Ave. Not such a bad walk. There is an elevator entrance to the subway concourse in the Herald Center Building, but if you walk across 31st or 32nd St., you will find a Path entrance before you find Herald Center. We understand that once you get onto Path, it's all easy from there with rolling luggage. Hoboken Path station is also a train station, so there are escalators or elevators there. The light rail is also no step up or down and the Bayonne station has an elevator.

I'm sailing on 9/11 to Bermuda and 2/6/11 to the Caribbean. Have a great cruise - you'll do just fine with this trip. The folks who have tried it have been pleased with the results.
