What is the quickest route to get to St. Mark's Square from the pier and how long does it take? We have 9:55am reservations for a tour at Doges Palace and want to be sure we allow plenty of time.

alilaguna M line http://www.alilaguna.it Alilaguna only runs every hour. It might be quicker to take the people mover to Piazzal Roma and the no 2 (express) vaporetto to St. Mark's. Quickest way is water taxi but that's expensive

If you take vaparetto from P.Roma, 51 appears to be the quickest - 20 minutes, however it does not go along the Grand Canal, it goes by La Giudecca and they are every 20 minutes. no. 41 is next fastest - same route but takes 23 minutes.

No.2 is the quickest on Grand Canal and runs every 10 minutes - takes 29 minutes from P.Roma

Here is the trip planner, you can work out your options using "search timetable" the time you enter is the time you want to arrive at S.Marco (Vallaresso or S.Zaccaria). Several options will be presented

We had the same time booked 2 weeks ago. We caught the 9:05 M line allaguna (located right in the pier where the ship is docked.) It took about 25 minutes to go to St Marks Square. When you get off at St Marks square, Doge's Palace is to the right of where the boat docks. At Doge's Palace we just walked right through the door marked pre-booked tickets (we had to show them our voucher) and got our tickets' even though there was a lineup of people to waiting get in who had not pre- booked anything.:) I am assuming that you have the secret tour booked.

The allaguna ticket was 6.5 E a person (same price as if you paying a single fare vaporotto ticket) without the hassle of taking the people mover over to Pl Roma, and then catching the Line 2 vaporotto(even though it doesn't make all the stops that Line 1 does, it still stops multiple times.) Line M is a direct route, it does not travel down the grand canal, but rather takes the same route that the ship will leave by. It's only stop is St Marks Square, and then it returns to the pier.

After our day in Venice, we took the vaporotto back(on line 1), and then the people mover. It was very easy to do, but definitely took much longer than our trip out, when we were on a deadline.
