Just off Pride

Will be on Pride in January and am very happy they are doing a drydock in November. Did you observe any things that needed "freshening up"? Was the ship in good shape?

Nothing was in bad shape. The carpeting and furniture showed wear. The paint on the ship outside of our balcony also needed repainting. It was rusting and flaking off. Other than that, I did not see anything that was in need of repair.

We were on the Pride the week prior to Twinsmom and I can only echo what she said. Overall, Pride is in real good shape, but has a few signs of...um...use....some rust needing paint and such..few carpet stains..plus the nose needs to be replaced on one of the over door statues in one of the forward elevators, it's been knocked off!!! Pretty minor stuff for as much as the ship is in service.

However, if you want to get your brain in a knot like I unfortunately did before we sailed the Pride last month, there is long winded thread somewhere on this board about the percieved reasoning as to why the Pride which originally was scheduled for dry dock in January, 2011, was bumped up to November 2010, forcing the cancellation of 2 cruises and disappointing those that were booked on those. Some of it is laughable.

We're planning to sail the Pride again next year, we'll be curious to see if we even notice anything different.

OMG - you are not kidding. While I felt bad for those people, some of the comments were waaaay over the top. Some people seem to enjoy

getting worked up. The funny thing is the most extreme comments were from those who were not directly effected.

I am looking forward to reading the comments of those just off post drydock Pride.

Twinsmom, I'd also like to know about when the casino opens---or really, my husband does. ;) Were you sailing with kids, and if so, what are your tips? It'll be our kids' first cruise so I'm collecting any advice I can get.

How old are your kids? the camps/clubs have a orientation the first night. My suggestion is to make it mandatory they go--just like the muster drill and let them know its all about a cruise experience.

Dinner as a family was mandatory every night. We would order one thing we never tried and passed it around our table. The kids found wonderful things they liked and didnt feel bad if they didnt like it-- at least they tried it.

We tried this with each course. The soup courses were all good.

Tips is the same for everyone. 10.00pp per day which we always pre paid with out final bill as to not have that huge bill at the end.

New to this site. Soooo excited leaving on the Pride on the 22nd. So overdue for vacation.1 st time cruise for my 9 yr old. Wanted to ask about the activities in camp carnival for her age group. I know they are older, but what about the level of supervision for this age group? Glad I saw your post:o

Yea, definetley sucked for those that were booked on those 2 cruises in November, but the Carnival PVP that I deal with, told me they chose those weeks because typically, those weeks are not booked as full as most others. I'd be curious to know how many folks actually were impacted by the change since it was about 5 months out when things were canceled.

Thing that got me about all that were the ones who were SURE Carnival was "up to something", that something was significantly wrong with the Pride, and that was why they moved up it's drydock time at the expense of 2 weeks of cruises. Forget the fact the ship was still sailing for about 5 months prior to drydock, guess Carnival did not worry about possibly impacting those cruises, was worth the risks I suppose.

This all explains a lot to me! Our cruise in late January didn't originally exist. Some travel sites showed it but wouldn't get me through the booking process. Then suddenly it showed up on all the sites including Carnival's. I don't know enough about cruising for this to click, but we very happily jumped on that cruise as it's the only date that works for us.

Now you've got me curious about the over-the-top reactions....I guess I know what I'll be reading at lunchtime.

her age group will be 9-11. This age group can sign themselves in and out of the program with your written permission- which they need for the kids to do scavenger hunts-- and other activites based elsewhere on the ship.

if you do not want your 9 year old to come and go as she pleases you talk with her and let her know what is expected. Go over the activities with her the first night to see what she wants to do- and make arrangements either to pick her up-- or to meet you somewhere.

whatever happens--just let her know to stay in public places, stay away from the cabin areas. there is no reason for her to walk her new found friends back to their cabin--

One night they will have a sleep over that really gets over at 3am and the staff will take them back to their cabin- this will cost 6.00 per hour and the kids really do like it

Story as some got it was, Pride was scheduled for drydock, Jan, 2011, no cruises scheduled then, obviously. Carnival (my PVP) tells me, they got a "deal" for a drydock time in Nov, 2010. Carnival took the deal, but much to the dismay of those who were booked in Nov. PVP insists, "was not many", when canceled. So, cruises then available in Jan 2011 on Pride, yeaayy for those who can book them!!!!

Good luck with your lunch time reading!!!

about how long does it take from the time the boats leaves the port before it goes under the bridges.

Not hijacking here...but we are on the same sailing in a few short weeks. We have a roll call if you care to check it out. :) :)
