Princess or Indpendent

We are visiting Newport RI for the first time with Princess in October. We always try and find independent tours rather than ships tours because they are cheaper and much better value for money. However, on this occasion we are undecided as to how to make the most out of our day in Newport. Any help would be appreciated.

Read the threads on this board about Newport and I think you will come to the conclusion that this is a particularly easy DIY port. We are going to tender in from Crown, then walk 1 block to Visitor's Center to buy tickets to mansion (decide that day 1 or 2). Trollies and bus #67 take you the one to two mile ride to the mansions for audio tour or guided tour by Newport Historical Society.

 

Lots of information that will let you make up your mind. Probably won't need any tour if you make the choice we did. I will dust off the furniture for you since we go first. Have a great cruise.

I think it is a personal decision as to whether to do a shop tour or an independent tour.

Regardless of what you do, I would recommend seeing the following sites/areas.

 

I would visit The Breakers Mansion and take the tour of the Mansion.

 

I would visit and do the Cliff Walks.

 

I would also allow a couple of hours to walk around this charming town.
