We'll be there from 8-6pm. is this possible? I'm planning on taking a private taxi to bannister island and private tour of the ruins. Does anyone know what's the car traveling distance between those two? Any comments appreciated. Thanks.

I believe you have to arrange the booking to Bannister Island yourself and they send the tender boat to your ship to pick you up. It may be a ship only excursion for some cruise lines. It's not just some place you can hop into a taxi and ride too, it's off shore about 9 miles. Water taxis aren't regularly scheduled to go there, if at all. Usually they pick up up around 9:30 and return you around 3-3:30 PM. No time to go to even Altun Ha, the closest Mayan ruins (all the others are several hours away). Your ship's last tender will depart at 5PM from the tender pier. Altun Ha is about 30 miles away from the tender pier. That's over an hour RT travel time , if you're lucky.

Bummer! I had the same question. We were hoping to find a private tour of the Mayan ruins and get in some snorkeling.
