Hi Chris!

Depending on the port, you might be a little early for some of the bear tours. Check the dates offered on the individual Princess trips and then perhaps explore the independent operators for the best opportunities. We took the Neet's Bay Bear Watching excursion in mid-August and it was fantastic. About 2 dozen black bears feasting on salmon!

Denali Park is the best bargain around for wildlife and if you are going one way on the Sun- I HIGHLY suggest you plan extra days to tour the interior. Then take the SHUTTLE bus into Denali Park to Fish Creek, bears very likely. You are too early for the Ketchikan black bear tours, only other option would be to Pack Creek out of Juneau with Alaska Fly N Fish http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=viewing.packcreek
