Boston Duck/Trolley Tours

I want to do both a duck tour and a trolley tour in boston but i am having a hard time deciding which company to book with. Can anyone give me some insight on which one is better?

I dont know what to do, i read some mixed reviews that old town trolley has more frequent service compare to the upper deck. Which one is more closer to the cruise terminal?

I think you will find that the duck tour and the trolley tours overlap a lot. You will spend your entire time in Boston sitting on a tour bus, possibly in traffic on the city streets. My advice would be to do one or the other. IMO the Duck tour is nice, but you pay a lot to ride in a vehicle that can enter the water and cruise around the Charles River. To me it's an expensive amusement park ride. If you must have a Boston "water" experience, then an alternative is to take the Old Town Trolley to see the Constitution, take the MBTA water ferry back to Long Wharf to experience the harbor, and walk over to Quincy Market/Fanueil Hall. Do that area and walk up to Stop 5 at State St and pick up the rest of the Old Town Trolley tour.

As a traveler to Boston, and one who has done the duck tour, I agree with the above poster. Follow that advise and you will be fine.

When we were in Boston, we just walked down from the cruise ship to the left and there was a tent where you could purchase independent trolley tours. We choose the upper decks as they sit up higher and they were much more frequent than the others we saw. The price as $32.00 per person and also included a river or harbor cruise. We choose the harbor cruise, which was nice. The guides were very good and helpful. We used them to get around town and see what we wanted after the inital tour.

 

All of the trolleys were new and in great shape.

While the duck tour looks like fun, the best water tour is the harbor tour in Boston. It gives you some history of the city, and takes you to the Constitution.

 

The city tours are OK, and a good way to see the city if you don't want to/can't walk the route. I think Old Town tours allows you to get on and off the trolley, so you can spend some time at stops that are of interest.

 

If you are OK with walking, Boston is a VERY walkable city, enhanced by the subway system to help you get around. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, some of the walkways are still the old cobblestone :)
