We rented a car (brand new Hyundai) from Corfu Sunrise for 60 euros (stick shift) and had a great time exploring beaches. Never made it into town because we had so much fun outside of it - this weas one of my favorite ports.

We have rented a car In Corfu several times. We have never had any trouble finding a car at the port. We have made reservations with Sunrise and they have a car at the port for 35 euros. We have been able to drive around a lot of the island and always enjoy our days there.

We have also rented a car on Cefolonia. We just walked down the street to the left of the pier and found Sunbird car rental. This is one beautiful island. Here is the route we took from my review.

The drive from Argistoli to Assos has to be one of the most beautiful drives in the world. The road is cut along the side of the mountain and you have mountain on one side and a long sheer drop to the water on the other. The water is an amazing color of blue with mountains in the background. We wanted to stop and take pictures but there was no place for quite a while. Finally we came to some scenic turnouts. We had to watch for goats on the road but luckily there was little traffic.

We stopped at Miktros Beach which is the island’s most famous beach. There is a long windy road down to the beach but it’s well worth it. The beach consists of white pebbles and the water is clear blue. There is a small cave at one end that you can walk into that has an outlet to the water. The beach is pretty large and surrounded by mountains.

We continued a short bit more down the road to Assos. This is a small picturesque village on the water. We walked around a little but didn’t stay long as we had much more to see on the island. We back tracked a little to get to the road that crossed the island to Agia Efimia. This is another small village on the water. On this side of the island the road continues right along the water. You can see modern windmills on the top of the mountains.

It was a short beautiful ride from Agia Efimia to Sami which is one of the major ports on the island. Sami has a very nice water front area and we stopped here and had a gyro for lunch. We continued a little past Sami to Antisamos Beach. Again the views were absolutely beautiful. This beach was a bit rocky but had a nice beach restaurant and clear blue water. Unfortunately we had to be back to the ship’s tender by 2:30 so we had to head back to Argistoli. It was an easy drive back over the mountains. It took us 45 minutes to get back to the car rental place. We stopped for gas and returned the car. We had a little time left to do a little shopping.

Anyone rented a car in either of these ports? WE are there in October and aren't really sure what we want to do - any suggestions welcomed!

I am sure that you can rent a car and enjoy Corfu, but we had a great time on our excursion with NCL. It took us over much of the north end of the island to a monastery on the west side.

Scenic Island & Flavors

The island of Corfu offers serene beauty in its many colorful villages. On this tour, you'll visit towns offering splendid views of the area's multiple bays. You'll also visit the Monastery of the Virgin and its small museum. Continue towards the charming village of Lakones, built on the slopes of a mountain. One of the sites that lay outside the village is called Bella Vista, and offers from its balconies breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and the stunning Paleokastritsa with its coves and rocks, one of which is reputed to be the petrified ship of Ulysses. Here you'll have the opportunity to taste the famous ouzo together with Greek appetizers. Afterwards, in the main square of Corfu Town, enjoy a walk through the picturesque streets, visit the church of Saint Spyridon and view other landmarks of the city before returning to the pier. Note: During summer months expect extreme heat, crowded venues and long lines. We recommend that you dress in layers and bring bottled water. Guests who are planning to visit religious sites during free time or on tour, please dress appropriately. No bare shoulders or shorts are allowed.

The first time we rented a car in Corfu we drove to the Monestary first and arrived before the tours. We then drove to Lakones for the view and continued to Krini. If you like to hike there is a castle with a great trail. It was closed when we were there but has just reopened.
