Snuba Question

We used a weight belt when we did snuba a few years ago.

Word of warning..if you are having trouble equalizing your ears underwater make sure you let the guide know. I didn't and it lead to a bad infection and almost total hearing loss for a couple weeks.

Learned my lesson though and DW and I just got our open water scuba certification last weekend so now we can really dive. :)

Congrats on your Open Water Certification. Good advice on the ears, one thing that helps and you might want to consider is to use something like, Auro-Dri after you dive. It will help flush your ears out and also prevent swimmers ear.

  • 2 weeks later...

For those interested,,, I just returned from Grand turk and did a SNUBA excursion. If I didn't live in the Seattle area, I would consider getting my certification.

It was extremely enjoyable. Not sure I'll ever be satisfied snorkeling again.

The dive instructor did spend about 30 minutes going over safety, hand signals, bouyency belts, etc, etc.

Kinda funny, kinda dumba$$ on my part.

Pressure equalization.

Pinch your nose, gently pop your ears. Easy to do for landlubbers.

:D I had a heck of a time trying to gently blow out my ears with a regulator in my mouth. Pinch my nose, gently pop my ears by exhaling thru my regulator. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Finally figured it out but felt real silly about it.

Also, IT IS NOT NATURAL FOR A HUMAN BEING TO BREATHE UNDER WATER.

This is the one and only time it is OK NOT to trust your instincts. Feel free to Breathe
