negc Posted September 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2010 If anyone has just returned to Boston from Bermuda today, how was the trip back? You should have been well ahead of Earl but may have experienced rough seas. How was it and did you hear any mentions of what the ship will be doing when she leaves Boston later today. Latest reports have significantly downgraded Earl but it is still going to have serious winds and waves. Unless it takes a sudden and sharp turn to the East, I imagine that it would not be pleasant to head towards Bermuda today. Any up to date information? DaddyDex Posted September 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2010 I was not on the Spirit but NCL has announced that The Spirit will be departing Boston later than planned. Either later this evening or tomorrow.
negc Posted September 3, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted September 3, 2010 I was not on the Spirit but NCL has announced that The Spirit will be departing Boston later than planned. Either later this evening or tomorrow. Since the latest reports have Earl off Cape Cod and the islands between 9pm and 3am, it sounds like tomorrow is a better bet. Keeping a ship in port during a storm can be a risky proposition but perhaps it is the best of several poor options. Timing is everything and Earl's timing seems to be especially unfortunate.:)
DaddyDex Posted September 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 3, 2010 I guess if you are from Boston it is no fun, but for others a little extra time in Boston won't hurt.
jackchris Posted September 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 3, 2010 My parents and two other couples (their friends) are aboard this sailing. My mom is going to buy the internet plan and keep in contact with me via email. If I hear anything interesting I will post! She was a total wreck going into this whole thing with the hurricane and all. I hope she is finally relaxing!:)
negc Posted September 3, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted September 3, 2010 We live about 25 miles south of the city and it is beginning to sprinkle and very light winds are beginning to pick up. We should be spared the brunt of the storm and everything is supposed to be over and good weather due to return tomorrow but the next twelve hours or so will show how accurate the weather forecasters have been. Once the storm passes by, things should be set for great cruising.:)
gail-s Posted September 3, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2010 My friend just left work a little while ago to head into Boston for the trip. I'm hoping NCL does something for these people. I mean, I know cruises this time of year are cheap because of hurricanes, but, at least slip them a few free drinks or something while they wait. The kicker is they can't open the casino while in port....too bad...at least that could keep you occuppied.

I hope they do as well, but normally cruise lines, like airplanes do very little when the problems are weather related. Nita
Barb Nahoumi Posted September 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2010 When I was watching the ABC Evening News, I saw that the Spirit was still sitting in port. Were the passengers allowed to board as schedualed and use the ammenities of the ship? I hope so. DH and I were so happy that Earl fizzled into a fast moving tropical storm on Friday Evening. We had plans on cape cod, and were able to keep them. Barb
