SISer Posted September 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2010 Can I get to either using public transport from the port? WHich distileery is better to visit? Or should I visit both, if they are significantly different? I am travelling solo and on a budget so I'd like to avoid taxis if possible. Thanks. slotl Posted September 6, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2010 If you are planning to visit the Mount Gay Rum Factory, Remember to purchase Sugar Cane BRANDY. It can only be purchased in Barbados. It is sold in 1 pint bottles and makes excellent gifts.
coffeyk Posted September 7, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2010 We visited Mount Gay Rum on my own. We simply walked off the boat and got a taxi. I think it was $4 pp. We decided to walk back but I regreated that decision. There will be taxis waiting when your tour is over or the staff would be happy to call one for you. They offered that to us but we turned them down. The walk is not a pleasurable one so don't do it. The taxi was a van so it did not make a difference with the cost; the price was per person. The tour was worthwhile as well.

I routinely speak of taking taxis here and thereand folks probably think I own a taxi Co-op or sumthin but it's just that the heat and humidity after 9 a.m. gets to be too much particularly for us older folk. :) Glad to hear this person speak realistically...thank you, Sir/Madam.. The walk to and from the Mt.Gay place is largely thru docklands area and is somewhat circuitous despite being not that far away, in a straight line. . StLHoneymooners Posted September 18, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2010 We are interested in going to Mount Gay, then Banks Brewey then Lobster Alive...and taking a cab to all three...we are wondering if it is likely to be about $4 pp for each leg of this mini tour on our own??? Have to try that Sugar Cane Brandy!
