dixieva Posted September 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2010 I've sailed on Grandeur 4 times and I love this ship. I was very sorry when it left Baltimore. No secrets or favorite places but the staff is the best and I had a blast on all my Grandeur cruises.

dixieva Posted September 10, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 10, 2010 Ah geez! Watching that was torture! I wanted to be on the ship so bad! And there was a close up shot of the aft Royal Family suite balcony on deck 8 which I was fortunate enough to have that room on my last cruise on Grandeur. enidcruiser Posted September 10, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 10, 2010 My DH and I will be on with another couple. Hope the hurricanes will calm down. Our friend wants to know where the smoking areas are on the Grandeur. He found his favorite spots on the Freedom but this is a smaller ship. Just asking. Morecruisesplz Posted September 11, 2010 #13 Share Posted September 11, 2010 We've cruised on the Grandeur many times and consider it one of our favorite ships in the RCCL line. The small ship advantage of having fewer passengers for staff to get to know and pamper is a definite plus. This ship also benefits from one of the best trained, friendliest employees we have encountered in our 17 cruises with RCCL. The ship went through a retrofit a few years back during which the Windjammer was completely redone, new carpeting installed, a new pool deck installed, new bedding and other features. Enjoy your cruise!

Coralc Posted September 11, 2010 #16 Share Posted September 11, 2010 The deck plans show it on Deck 10, but is actually above the deck. You have to walk up the stairs into this tower structure, where the helipad would be on other Royal Caribbean ships. It's really neat, and the telescopes are free, but it is windy up there when the ship is underway. :)

RevSmith Posted September 11, 2010 #18 Share Posted September 11, 2010 Grandeur is going to be taking over the Enchantment's run, first to the Panama and then up to Baltimore again...this will happen in November. The captain Rob Hempsted will be going to the Enchantment and will be missed. The crew is slowly changing because they will need bi-lingual people to communicate with the large amounts of Spanish speaking people that will be on board when the change happens. The ship is in good shape for it's age. Sometimes the air conditioning in certain cabins doesn't work as efficiently as it should, especially while in port. The food is kinda hit and miss, although it is better on the smaller ships than on the large ones, the prime rib is always good, but they have changed from filet mignon to filet of beef, and now it's three slices with gravy, not that great, can be a little tough. The duck they serve on formal night is a good alternative for the steak. The comic they have now is great, don't know how long he will last. That's about all I can think of. bailey3310 Posted September 11, 2010 #19 Share Posted September 11, 2010 Just off the Grandeur today! The service was phenomenal, I can't say enough about it. The food was good, not great. Lobster on the 4th night for us. Order a couple if you are a good eater. We absolutely loved the scallops with mushroom risotto and the escargot appetizers. The first night for the Adult Comedy Show in the South Pacific Lounge, there was not enough seating, so go early for the things you really want a seat for. This was also the case for the last night in the Palladium Theater for the Love and Marriage Game Show and the Late Night Adult Comedy. We were unable to see those shows because there was no seating at either. Both comedians were pretty darn funny. The pool is small so we went to the Solarium if we wanted to get in the water. I have read a lot of complaints about drink prices. This was not our opinion, and my boyfriend and I like our coctails. There was a bucket special for beers- 8 for $25.50 (domestics), we thought this was a great deal. There are a few specials if you look at your cruise compass. I noticed that they had some house martini specials in the Champagne Lounge on a couple of nights (maybe all five nights I wasn't paying attention) and two for one bloody mary's one morning. There may have been more, that is all that I noticed. In response to the smoking question, I noticed that there was an outside section on the pool deck (9) outside of the Windjammer where smoking was permitted. It is also permitted in the Schooner Bar, but, I noticed they were sometimes enforcing that it was only permitted in the immediate area of the bar and not in the lounge area. It is also permitted in the Casino, but, there was a smoke-free night in the Casino which I thought was nice. There was an area on our deck outside that I saw smokers frequenting, so I assume there were other decks that had a designated area as well. Hope that helps. bailey3310 Posted September 11, 2010 #20 Share Posted September 11, 2010 Forgot to mention the express departure being a snap. If you can handle your own luggage (and you don't mind leaving at around 7:30), we were literally off the ship and in our car in 5 minutes. oldguysandgalls Posted September 12, 2010 #21 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Not a secret persè, but we found the view from the Windjammer Cafè to be breathtaking. Imagine sitting at a table for 2 (or 4) by the floor to ceiling large windows overlooking the ocean. It's as if you are soaring above the waves; it's pure magic. Your own penthouse view...okay with a few hundred friends:D
ali_cat Posted September 12, 2010 #22 Share Posted September 12, 2010 We're sailing the Granduer next month. I hope the hurricanes taper off by then. Ok, the view from the Windjammer sounds amazing. I have to ask, since you've practically made me teary from the idea of looking out of those tall windows, can we go up there for dinner even if we requested the main dining room? You can dine in the windjammer or order room service. No one can force you to eat any particular place. Enjoy your cruise. :)
