A Few First Timer Questions

I am still not over the initial excitment of going on my first cruise in July on the Miracle. My girlfriend and I have a few questions.

1. How formal are the 2 formal nights? Should she wear something like a prom dress on that night and a church dress on the other nights? or what do you recommend? also what about me? tux, suit?

2. My entire family is going and I am sharing an interior room with my cousin so I assume we will have 2 twins? She is sharing an interior room with my aunt, girl cousin and my cousins g/f. Thats 4 of them to share 1 room, will they have beds or bunks? I am not sure the stateroom number yet.

3. How strict is Carnival on allowing a 17 y/o into the casino, not to gamble just to watch.?

Thanks for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!

A suit or a tux is fine. If you have a tux, bring it, if not, I wouldn't kill yourself getting one. My father wore his tux one formal night and a suit the next formal night.

Your girlfriend can wear either or. I wore a nice black dress one night and fancier dress pants the next.

The catagory you booked decides what kind of sleeping arrangements you will have. Do you know what catagory was booked?

I really appreciate all the help. My aunt was a travel agent for many years for lots of sports teams and celebrities and she is saying that the cruise is not as formal and to just wear nicer clothes and not suits or anything, but she hasnt been on carnival in many years, only disney with her young daughter. These boards are a tremendous help and I know my girlfriend and I will enjoy the cruise alot more because of your help.

also, im hopeless at romantic stuff so for all the ladies. what is the most romantic place in the west caribbean(we will be in grand cayman, costa maya, cozumel, belize) or on the ship to propose? (hope my girlfriend doesnt hop onto these boards before the cruise, lol)

1. The most common dress on formal night is either a gown or a cocktail style dress. However we did see many church type dresses in the dining room on formal night.

AS for a tux my husband and son always rent one on the ship and that really saves on luggage space. They don't have to bring suit, tie, socks, dress shoes and shirts. Here is the link for renting a tux on board:

http://www.carnival.com/BonVoyage/Default.aspx?cat=Formal+Wear+Rentals

2. The quads have two twin beds down and two bunk beds that fold down out of the wall. The steward will make them up at night and put them back during the day. We always told them just to leave them down for an afternoon nap. The doubles are two twin beds or they can make them into a king.

3. As for the casino, my 16 year old daughter came in and stood behind us and watched us play blackjack. We told her not to say a word and they let her stay. She came in during a really busy time and no one noticed her. Just don't talk and you will probably be fine.

From Carnival:

"Please note that guests under 16 are not allowed in the spa. Guests under 18 are not allowed in the casino."

People aren't allowed to do a lot of things but they do. Some smuggle booze, some wear jenas in the dining room, some save lounge chairs by the pool, etc. some under the age of 18 stand behind and watch. Cotton is right about the rule. But the questiion was how strict are they and my answer is no one ever said anything to us.

I was not posting as to whether it is moral or not...simply answering the question. My point is, there are few in this world that don't break the rules now and again and I hardly doubt breaking this one is going to give anyone the norovirus.

If anyone here can say they never break a rule then they can start throwing the stones.

I was just posting the policy. Its up to each person to decide if they wish to follow the rules or ignore them.

Not to start another tangent, but there is no policy from Carnival that says you cant wear jeans. In my opinion its far to hot to wear jeans in the caribbean, but thats another issue.

I agree that is the policy. I think the poster already new that it was against the rule...that's why he asked how strict were they.

I guess this is another thread, but I could care less what rules someone breaks as long as it doesn't effect (or is that affect ...LOL) me.

I simply am answering the posters question with my experience in mind. Yes we know we broke the rule allowing her to watch, but she hurt no one and never said a word.

We will be on our 5th cruise this summer, our daughters 4th. She was 14 on the first cruise and will be 18 this time. She has played in the casino since the 1st cruise and nothing was ever said. This past cruise she was standing with her boyfriend and another girl in the casino who was 16, and the told the 16 year old that she would have to leave and not my daughter, sooooo.....you never know.

Who said it was OK???? I just said no one said anything to us. Probably because she wasn't hurting anything. Surely didn't say anything about swim diapers....

I added swim diapers because you excluded it from the long list of controversial topics (smuggled liquor, jeans, etc). And tacitly, you told the OP it was OK for the minor to watch as long as they were quiet and unobtrusive.

Oceantravler, I could not get to your review, when I clicked on it I got "This page cannot be desplayed", can you help.

Thanks for changing the subject....LOL

Try this link.

That review was posted before they changed to the new site and now you can not get to it from there. It is under the review section of this site. I don't know if this will work but try this link...I hope you enjoy it.

You are twisting my words. I never said it was OK (not against the rules) I said it would probably be fine, in that no one would probably say anything to him. I never said it wasn't against the rules.

Let me clarify since you clearly don't understand my point....

Watching in the casino under the age of 18 is against the rules.

The poster clearly knows the rule or he would not have asked the question "How strict are they..."

Now to reiterate since I was misunderstood by “some”. We broke the "rule" and allowed our daughter to watch and no one ever said anything to her. Although no one said anything to her you are breaking the rule if you do this. You choose if you want to break this rule...we did and no one said anything to us! Geeze!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you posted the policy. There is no doubt it is against the rules.

I'm with you on the jeans thing....way too hot! :)

Oh boy is that jean thing ever controversial...is it "casual resort wear" or not??? LOL Who cares!

::goes to corner until his thread is back on topic:: j/k but yes I know it is against policy, but I feel that something like that is kind of an unneeded policy because it is made to keep the "high rollers" happy by keeping kids out of the casino, but it can also make a family unhappy because they have to leave their kids alone at camp or wherever to play the slots. I am not a gambler I just want to experience everything the cruise has to offer so I want to play slots for a little bit but stay with my girlfriend, I may just buy her a massage and facial at the spa and go to the casino because I am always the one they make an example out of with my luck she would get caught and we would get sent home, lol.
