How to rent a car for only a few hours....

Upon return from our cruise in FLL, we have 9 hours to blow before heading to the airport and boarding our flight back home. Has anyone ever rented a car just for the day (we want to get some shopping in) and if so, is there a car rental agency that will send a shuttle to pick us up at the port to take us to the airport to pick up our rental car?

Thank you for your help!

Yes, many people rent cars for a few hours. It's better than being stuck sitting at an airport for hours.;) Plus it's great for storing your luggage, too.

There will be shuttles that are marked for rental car returns/pickups. You don't even have to call for one. There were many running every 10 minutes or so. It's usually a free service from the rental agencies.

Yes thats what we are doing, both pre cruise and post cruise...You get charged a days rate though no matter how many hours you actually keep the car but it so cheap...30 dollars for the day/night...

We actually on the need the car after the cruise to take us from port everglades to miami airport...Still far cheaper than a taxi or shuttle for us both...

We will do this in November and have done it many times before but from Miami. I am having some trouble varifying which car rentals have a shuttle for Port Everglades. And the prices I'm seeing are really high for a 7 hour rental - like $85. It's a Monday instead of a weekend so maybe that makes a difference. If if wasn't for the issue of bags it would be cheaper to taxi to and from a beach.

Does anyone know of a place on the beach (in Fort Lauderdale) that just rents chairs for the day? Do any public beaches do this? Have not found this information anywhere. We usually get late flights as they are cheaper. I wish the port areas would come up with a place to go for the day while waiting for flights. (Thinking of a place like you find on the Caribbean islands with chairs, food and drinks).
