Footage, photos and facts from my time with Alla Tours (who were excellent) on 3rd/4th June 2010 - this is what we saw in addition to a bit of city sight-seeing, on the 2-day 'moderate' tour :

The Fountains of Peterhof

The Catherine Palace at Pushkin

Peter and Paul Fortress/Cathedral

St Isaac's Cathedral

Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood

The Winter Palace/Hermitage State Museum

Videos from the other ports on the 11-day Baltic Cruise (HAL Eurodam) :

Copenhagen

Tallin

Helsinki

Suomenlinna (Fortress of Finland)

Stockholm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NweRnGqZ1k

Royal Warship Vasa & the Vasa Museum

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x45l1WMZOXA

It's not really a shore excursion, but if you're sailing from Dover and have a car the Battle of Britain Memorial is well worth a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-9SifcE_uA

Other cruise destinations' videos :

Normandy Beaches and Honfleur (3 videos)

Full Panama Canal transit (Pacific-Atlantic) (2)

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1192555

Eastern Mediterranean (7)

Sights of Berlin and the History of the Berlin Wall (2)

Thanks Susan,

The tracks were :

Peterhof - The Young Prince and Princess from Scheherazade (Rimsky-Korsakov)

Catherine Palace - Solveig's Song from the Peer Gynt Suite (Grieg)

P & P Fortress - 'The Romance' from Larsson's (Swedish composer) Pastoral suite

St Isaac's Cathedral - Piano concerto no.3, 1st movement by Rachmaninoff

Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood - The Creed by Gretchaninoff

Winter Palace/State Hermitage Museum - Dance of the Knights by Prokofiev and Lara's Theme (Somewhere My Love) from the soundtrack to Dr Zhivago by the Tony Osborne Orchestra.

The general idea was to use as much Russian music as possible. The choice for the Church on the Spilled Blood is to these tin ears a bit of a dirge but the friend who lent me the CDs for all this insisted that a Russian Orthodox Church must have Russian Orthodox Church. Fair enough I suppose :)

Nice job on the videos. Lots of information. I often find I learn more about a place when I'm back home than I did when I was there. The process of making the video always reveals things I didn't know. That whole Baltic trip is so fantastic ! .. For anyone on the fence about going --- DO IT .. Here's a link to my videos of our Baltic trip in 2009 ..
