voyagerII Posted September 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2010 Wife and I are booked (paid in full) for 10 Panama Canal on Zuiderdam in Oct and fare for VH Guan just went down $100.00 PP. What, if any rebate, obc or whatever might I expect from HAL/Travel Agent? Thanks in advance.
Spender Nui Posted September 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2010 Call them and ask for the lower price.
Mary Ellen Posted September 18, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2010 Yep, they give you the lower price unless you call. We've not always gone for the lower price as it sometimes requires a new booking - and we've have to give up the dining we wish.
sail7seas Posted September 18, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2010 Sometimes they might give you an OBC or a small upgrade but often the terms of the lower price are 'for new bookings only' so you might not be entitled to anything. If you cancel and rebook, you could have a cancellation fee from TA, could lose reserved dining if you requested Traditional and could lose the particular cabin you selected unless you are a guarantee and didn't have an assigned cabin. jtl513 Posted September 19, 2010 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2010 You could also ask them not for a fare reduction but an upgrade in your guarantee level. In the past I have asked for and gotten an upgrade to a VE gty, which insured that I wouldn't get a steel-walled verandah way forward.
voyagerII Posted September 19, 2010 Author #9 Share Posted September 19, 2010 To All: I contacted my TA who in turn spoke to HAL who spoke to her supervisor. HAL granted $100.00 OBC along with a 2X cat upgrade on VH Guarantee which in my opinion was fair and generous. Thanks to all who responded. Hot2Travel Posted September 19, 2010 #10 Share Posted September 19, 2010 Would it be prudent to request a 'price reduction guarantee' when booking the cruise with your TA?;)

I would have expected either/or - not both. Enjoy!!
Stakeout Posted September 19, 2010 #12 Share Posted September 19, 2010 from what has been our experience... no adjustments are made after Final Payment... I got that from a number of people at HAL as well as other Travel Agents... so anything you got was gravy.. a big plus:D
rangeley Posted September 19, 2010 #13 Share Posted September 19, 2010 We went through this a few years ago. Any price reduction you see is ONLY on new bookings. Two years ago our cruise went down $600 so we cancelled and rebooked and luckily got the same room. All that was done before final payment. A few years ago you could call up if the price went down and they would honor it. Since then to many people must have done that and they changed the rules to new bookings only.
