I do smoke however my husband does not. I respect him and others the same. I do not smoke in closed rooms, I do not smoke around any children, and I do respect everyone around me, what I dont respect is the non smoker that feels they need to make a big deal out of it instead of just telling me im affecting them. Rude comments will get you nowhere. Im easy ask nice and done ill put it out.

I've noticed a few of you smokers say you are courteous and I think that is so wonderful! I think we should all respect each other!

I do wish carnival wouldn't scatter the smoking areas and non smoking areas all over the place I wish they would just make one side of the ship that was smoking have a bar, the cigar bar, and the casino and a pool on that side.. and the other side non smoking have the dining rooms, another pool, the day spa, and shopping mall, and the big theater room with another bar or two and the disco . It would just make more sense to totally segregate the two areas.

I respect the right for people to smoke or have what ever vice they have.. But I think when that vice can infringe on the HEALTH of another person and second hand smoke is almost just as bad as smoking it yourself. I think that it should be taken more seriously.

Now mind you I am allergic to smoke I can "deal with it" in small amounts but I would go into a full blown asthma attack if I walked into a cigar room. and for this reason as well I can't step foot in the casino which is fine by me because i don't gamble

but anyways I just think people in general need to be more courteous I appreciate those of you smokers who are! I think that fact that you think of others is so commendable!

How in the world did we all survive days gone by when nearly EVERYONE smoked, and smoked nearly EVERYWHERE... hosptial rooms, grocery stores, stadiums, hotels, business offices, you name it. I know that's not the way of the world any longer, but smoking is allowed in cabins & balconies on most Carnival ships, so I guess we all just need to suck it up (pardon the pun) & deal with it. :D

Well Said!!!

On the Freedom in Aug, I had been in the Victoriana lounge watching a game, When we left I wanted a cigarette, So I walked to the players bar. A smoking bar. I moved to the middle of the bar and lit one up.

Now you would have thought I committed a murder by the way the older gentleman was carrying on. He stated he was there first and watching TV. He went on and on. I spied the bartender and she was smiling and trying not to laugh. I looked at him when he was done and said I am sorry but you do know you are in a smoking area.

He grumbled as he left and was very nasty about it. Now mind you I was not the only one smoking. Now had he been polite and not demanding I would have moved to the other end of the bar by the casino.

It's how you say it ask it is how people respond to you

I don't see any victims if the person is smoking on the balcony. I detest the smell of cigars but I respect the person's right to smoke them.

Actually I also thought that cigars and pipes could not be smoked except in a few designated areas (cigar bar, some outside places)

I know cigarettes can be smoked inside ( that is Carnival's current rule on most ships...Splendor excepted for the most part)

LHP just printed out the ruling from "corporate">> and I am printing it out

myself to take with me on my next cruise

I dislike all of it, but cigars leave a real stench that just doesn't go away

Mu first balcony cabin was great, no smokers near me

now...I don't know...I do get nervous about this

I realize it would be hard to segregate "smoking" and non smoking cabins

Maybe in the future they could make the "coves" smoking and /or lower decks smoking and make smokers pay more for them instead of making people pay more for non smoking

after all, smoking can damage the rooms more

and...sometimes late at night after smelling smoky casino I am in my cozy cabin and I start to worry...what if one of those drunken smokers starts a fire in their cabin:?? ??? ????

Scary thought and a real reason to ban smoking from cabins

Why should I pay more because I smoke and you don't. We both pay the same fare. Again on the Freedom my balcony next door neighbor didn't even realized I had been smoking on the balcony until we left the last port and she saw a cigarette in my hand.

And I did most of my smoking out there. As I don't smoke in bed at home so I wouldn't on a cruise

That is bogus info! Totally untrue. Cigars are smoked on every balcony or room I have stayed in on Carnival. Only 14 times, guess they forgot to tell me.

Just because you got away with it, does not make it "bogus".

People have been getting away with smuggling for years..... just because they got away with it, doesn't change the fact that Carnival has a rule against it.

These are the Carnival rules for INSIDE the cabins....I did not ask about balconys, since that is an outdoor area.

Carnival states no cigars or pipes INSIDE the cabin....

Maybe if the Dream had a cigar bar this would not be as much of a problem.

The Dream has the Port side Lanai that is very nice.....comfy chairs out under the stars.....we saw many folks enjoying a cigar out there in December....

Yes, but not the same. I can sit on the starboard side of any cruise ship deck and do that. A sports bar or cigar bar should be on the Dream.

Yep Carnival does a pretty bad job letting the 75% of non-smokers know that paying extra for a balcony does not guarantee, you or your children will be able to enjoy the balcony.

I once had a guy tell me and the kids- "deal with it"

My bad, I only smoke cigars in Balcony cabins. Would not smoke a cigar in the inside cabins. No ventilation.

Sharecruises will be running all over ship now with your letter. To bad she cant enjoy her cruise without her anti smoking agenda.

I enjoy cigars when I am on vacation, but I would never think of doing it in a cabin, even before kids. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to get all that smoke out of there. I couldn't even imagine taking that amount of time in the cabin to smoke a cigar. Now I have been known to light one up on a balcony, but that is one reason I try to get a balcony near the back of the boat. I can't imagine that the smoke is bothering to many people closer to the front of the boat. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I would have to imagine that the smoke would head towards the back while the boat is moving. I also am mindful of kids, as i won't smoke around them. If I'm on the balcony and there is kids on one near me, I don't smoke. Happened the last time I cruised, our neighbors had a young kid. And though it has never happened, if someone expressed their displeasure in my activity, I wouldn't do it if they were out there. I think if smokers were more respectful, it wouldn't be such an issue; but on the the other side of the coin, if non-smokers didn't run around trying to out-right ban an activity because they are in the "majority" maybe they would get more respect.

Believe me... if it's HOT... that "cigar bar" on the Dream is no dream.

We sailed mid July... and some nights it was downright sweltering HOT! So... sweating my butt of... smoking a cigar... Pure joy. (not so much).

Listen... I spend a pretty good amount of money to try and ventilate my "cigar cave" at home... so I know all about how much it takes to get the cigar smell out of an inside room. I can't imagine that someone would want to smoke in a non-ventilated room... but... as they say... "It takes all kinds"...

I will refrain from suggesting where you can store it while on board.

So now not only are we disgusting cretins who pollute the air you breathe, we are also all drunks as well

'Ya know....I was thinking that same exact thing. It wasn't THAT long ago that restaurants, businesses, hotels, etc....all of them allowed smoking. I don't smoke. But, I don't remember hearing anyone thinking it was a huge issue when it was allowed.

Granted, I go to KY quite a bit where many bars and restaurants still allow smoking. And, I do notice the difference. But, I just figure I just go to another establishment if it bothers me (and sometimes it does, given the venue).

Still, I think way too much is made of this. No one is smoking in my cabin. Even on my balcony, I sometimes smell a cigerette or cigar. It doesn't last long and I'm of the mind "let bygones be bygones".

Overhead a few years ago between an avid non-smoker arguing with an avid smoker. The non-smoker was loudly proclaiming how he considered smokers 2nd class citizens and should be jailed (he was a bit over the top in his protests).

The smoker was just as vocal about his rights to do what he wished (again, a bit over the top).

The argument ended when the smoker told the non-smoker that he would gladly put out his cigerette if the non-smoker would agree to quite letting out the obnoxious flatulence that had to be un-healthy to anyone who inhaled it.

Not all smokers are drunks...not all of the drunks are smokers

but combine the two..and it could be a disaster

sure a non smoking drunk might fall on their face or puke in their cabin or even climb up and fall off their balcony:eek:

BUT unless they brought their weber grill on board or a bunch of candles they won't start a fire

a drunken smoker on the other hand?? How many times do you see house fires, apartment fires, trailer fires (matchboxes) where someone fell asleep smoking (very often drunk)

It's a scary thought..and one I sometimes can't get out of my head

Yeah..the idea scares me :(

Every time we went out on our spa balcony we could smell smoke...so there is no escaping because smoke rises.

We also had the spa balcony when we were on the dream in july, however we were on deck 11 at the front of the ship (there was only one cabin closer to the front of the ship) We detest smoke and we were fortunate that we had no smoking issues at all. I guess the other option is to get an inside cabin if you feel you have to smell smoke when you have a balcony

Why is that this society feels if it's something they don't do, no one should do it or certain laws or rules should be enacted because of their whimpering and whining?

A cruise vacation is not just about you....there are thousands of people on the ship that would like to enjoy their vacation as much as you. Just because you may not partake in a certain habit, it's not up to the ship to accommodate your every request. Hotels don't do it, though they do offer smoking/non-smoking floors, and yes many hospitals now have stopped those from smoking anywhere on the grounds. To think that you should be singled out as a person that could create a new rule simply because you don't like something someone else is doing is just ludicrous.

What happened to the days of enjoying the fact that you're on a vacation and literally allowing things to fly into the wind? People tend to be vocal about everything, and nobody gives a flying hoot. Get over yourselves, if you don't like something, there are options. Choose another vacation or cruiseline, but don't try to punish those that have habits because you don't. BTW, I don't smoke, but will puff on occasion while on a cruise - not sure why, just the motion of the ocean I guess. However, those that have paid their hard-earned money deserve the same vacation as I. Geesh...

....ummmm....maybe it's the booze they should ban!!!!! No, wait, we tried that in the 20's....that didn't work...but hey, there's a real cool new HBO series about prohibition if you care to watch.....

Second hand booze kills more folks then second hand smoke.....just ask MADD.....
