Just off the Dream-Horrible cigar smell from room next door

cruisin again

Recommended Posts

Esty, you are all for E-cigs, how about the next cruise you go on you go and pass the word about E-cigs to all the smokers who bother you. Let's see if any of them will want to sit down and want to listen to what you have to say about them. We smokers know the options already about the E-cig, so enough already about seminars held onboard a cruiship as no one will even attend, except maybe you to boost your self esteem so you can report back here how your analogy as to how your constant "ranting" on E-cigs should be implimented, unfortunately for you it will be a bust.

It it what is is, Carnival ALLOWS smoking people, it will never change no matter how hard you gripe and moan and complain on this board. The changes already have been made.

Never say never....seems to me the change has been slow, but constant and definately not finished. Carnival responds to their target margets, if their target market becomes more non-smoking, they will repond.

THAT is why it will likely never happen.

CCL's target is not the non smoker and I don't think it ever will be.

I didn't say their target market was the non smoker...I said as their target market became more non-smoking...which seems to be the trend of the whole country.

I am not there to change minds or win hearts LOL> and I don't work for an e-cig company

but....I do feel the times will change

John Heald said the "experiment" on non smoking piano bar and disco on Splendor is over...and they will stay NON smoking

they "found" and "feel" that smokers can and will go outside or go to a smoking bar/casino to indulge

MY guess and hope is that they will spread this to the rest of the fleet

I don't have time or energy to talk to smokers on board....I don't go to their side of lido, I don't go in casino or casino bar

sometimes I try to go to the piano bar and I do go to the disco but usually

I have to leave cause it smells and my eyes water

The e-cigs might be a good thing to look into however, it seems to be a lot better for you than smoking, yes has nicotine but not the other junk in regular cigarettes...and just think you will smell better and could "vape" in places that don't let you smoke

I agree,

Carnival targets those who they know will be spanding the most money onboard the ships, ie- Bars, Casinos, after all that is where they make their money from.

It is already a proven fact that nonsmokers do not spend the money it takes to satisfy the cruiselines. Not to say that all nonsmokers are this way, but most are.

Sorry if you don't agree, just stating the facts here.

If you really want to see changes made in the ships policies, then get off the hip and let loose of that money and buy a lot of drinks and make those big time contibutions to the casino.

You can fill out all the comment cards, send emails and phone calls to Carnival all you want, but until the nonsmokers show Carnival that they are serious with what they want by making them a profitable company, your thoughts and words to them are a moot issue.

If only that were true.... After a 10 year decline, smoking is again on the rise......

People are NOT very smart it seems.

Well my guess would be that the Splendor will stay that way cause it is a west coast based ship.

I doubt that if it were moved over to the east coast or the gulf it would be changed within a matter of a month.

LOL>> that is your opinion....

I think there are many misconceptions on this board..one is that people from California are that much "different" from the rest of the country

most places no longer allow smoking, California started sooner, but the rest of the country caught up to them

you can have your guess but MY guess is that this will spread to the other ships

maybe for the new year :) I will hope and I hope others also ask for this

you can have your cigar bar, one side of the lido, and the sports bar

many of us would like to enjoy the piano bar and disco

and the smoke can't be good for the piano players

I agree...There are very few places in Michigan anymore where I have to breath in someone else's smoke...It's very nice to be able to go in the bar and be able to breath and enjoy it for a change.

What's amazing is that even Europe has moved to ban smoking in restaurants.

I've always loved this line of logic

Since smokers might have problems controlling their impulses, they also buy too many over-priced drinks, and spend money like it is water in the Casino. :D Thus Carnival targets these weak willed souls, and keep their corporation afloat:rolleyes: Sorry, I give smokers more credit than that... but its a good try

Smokers are still allowed to smoke on the balcony, not because they drop their money like they don't care... but because times have not caught-up with the realities of tighter smoke rules on the rest of the ship which are causing more smoking on the balconies (which is a growing problem for non-smokers who book balconies). A rule is needed so both groups can be happy on the balconies

Sorry bud but it is not a line of logic from a smoker.

It is a proven and well known fact that most nonsmokers do not spend alot of money in these area's.

How many times do you read on this board alone a post from a nonsmoker that states they don't care if the casino is smoking cause they don't gamble and the talk on here about the piano bar and disco being so smokey that they won't go in there.

If your not in theses places spending money then please tell me how in the world you are supporting them?

If the nonsmokers really wants to use these venues all they need to do is get there early and fill up the place with nonsmokers, that way there won't be any room for a smoker to come in.;) But then you wouldn't have anything to complain about.

Carnival makes no money off of you by spending time out on your balcony.

They allowed you to rent a cabin with a balcony view for a week or whatever. It is up to you how and when you use it or if you choose not to use it at all.

Carnival could care less as long as they have the money that it took to book the balcony cabin.

It always amazes me that from the nonsmokers view that all statements made by a smoker are of no value.

I wouldn't know if that were a proven FACT or not...don't know where you get your facts. I will agree from my own experience that I don't smoke and I don't gamble. It likely is true that smokers gamble more, but I don't know if it's a FACT.

I do attempt the Paino bar...all the time. When it gets too smoky, I have to leave...I imagine other non smokers do the same. If I stayed, I assure you, I would be spending money on drinks.

Those ships are huge and you can purchase drinks ANYWHERE on them, not just in the casino or the piano bar so your next statement makes no sense at all... I don't smoke, or gamble but by S&S bill is always ugly at the end of every cruise, I assure you that I spend money. I 'support' the cruise line just fine.

When you buy a drink on any ship it is tracked by the computer at which bar the drink was bought, therefore the cruiseline knows which bars, venues are selling the most drinks on each sailing.

Carnival doesn't know if you smoke or not, all they know is what bars or venues are doing the most business in selling drinks.

Therefore if the cruiseline offers a smokefree night in the casino and at the end of that night the revenue is way below par, then that is telling Carnival that the nonsmoker is not supporting the casino.

The same statment can be applied to any other bar or venue on the ship.

If the bars on the ship that are designated smoking are out selling the bars that are smoke free then how do you think that Carnival see this?

So my above post makes perfect sence.

I attempt going to the casino. Its usually too smokey and I end up leaving and not spending money. Maybe the reason we don't spend the money there because we can't stand to be in there.

Every ship I have ever sailed on has had a nonsmoking section in the casino. So that's not a very valid excuse.

Well i'm a non smoker but i have no problem with most smokers as i find there are alot more considerate smokers than inconsiderate ones - at least in my own experience. I am about to go on my first carnival cruise, and i suppose if i'm honest and had had a choice i would have preferred that smoking was not allowed in the cabins/balconies, as the previous resident of *my* cabin may have been a smoker and i find stale smoke worst of all. Having said all that, i knew the policy before we booked and so i have no grounds for complaining about it :)

With regards smoking, live and let live - as long as people are not totally ignorant of those around them at least - and that goes for both smokers and non smokers!:)

Edit just to add i am from the UK and smoking in enclosed public areas is no longer allowed here!

If your facts are true, you'd have to ask- what makes smokers bigger gamblers and drinkers? Are they bigger risk takers by nature of being a smoker?

I never said that smokers were bigger gamblers and drinkers.

What I said is that MOST NONSMOKERS aren't willing to spend as much money in the casino and at all bars throughout the ship such as the piano bar, disco bar, casino bar.

I am not against people who don't smoke, I have plenty of freinds that don't smoke and we all get along just fine.

What I do nave a problem with is the smart a$$ nonsmokers that makes smart a$$ remarks for no other reason but to fan the flames and feel that the world as a whole must bow down to their agenda because they are the only ones that are right and a smokers statments are invalid in an open discussion.

So, are you saying ban smoking on balconies? Does that appease both groups? Or are you saying one side of the ship is smoking and the other non??

In New Brunswick Canada, it is illegal to light up in any public place or government run businessor property. No smoking in bars, restaurant , buses , train and bus stops...

The newest rule is you can no longer smoke in a vehicle( Your own included) with anyone under the age of 16 years old !

Alot of people said it was gonna be bad for business. Especially bars....

People threatened to stay home or not buy....After the dust settled , nobody was hurt and life as it was went on ....

All the business and people screaming this was kill them , were wrong....

For an extra kick government added taxes and other fees and make it almost unaffordable to smoke in this provnce. A pack of cigarette average brands $8.50 -$12.00 a package !!!!!

Wow. This is certainly another blatant example of a government passing laws to protect people from their own stupidity.

Sad, really.
