transport from bayonne to jfk greetings from explorer

Greetings from the Explorer of the Seas! Having a wonderful time but now find there is no organised transfer from Cape Liberty to JFK. Does anyone know if we can hop in a cab? Will it be willing to cross state lines? Not sure on this as we are Irish and not familiar with cab protocols here. We did get a quote from a private car rental for $180 but find this a bit expensive. Any help gratefully accepted.

Yes, taxis are very used to going back and forth between NJ and NY, so that shouldn't be a problem. It'll cost you, though! Sorry I can't offer any additional advice since I've never taken that route before. Good luck!

If you have internet minutes you can look at the East Coast Departures boards for suggestions. I can summarize it for you by saying that the recommendation is to fly into EWR as transportation to the port is much cheaper than from JFK, but that is water under your bridge.

 

In your case, a cab or car service is probably your best bet, and the quotes people threw out began at $125 (off the top of their head so may not be accurate). Public transportation is an option but it would take awhile and several changes would be necessary.

 

Your $180 car service quote seems reasonable if it includes tip, tax and tolls.

According to the site below a taxi from Bayonne Cruise terminal at 14 Port Terminal Boulevard, Bayonne, NJ to JFK should be around $94 including 15% gratuity but not toll charges. Route shown uses Verrazano Narrows bridge which has a $11 cash toll for cars in the west bound direction only. If EZPass is used by taxi the toll is $9.14. Go to

A car service would be your best bet as a taxi (cab) could run into a lot of $$$ going to the airport in the morning rush hour traffic :eek:

 

From reading the East Coast Departures board, http://www.carmellimo.com and Black Executive cars are recommended. I checked carmel limo and the rates run from $82 and up (excluding tax and tip) depending on type of car. This is the address of Cape Liberty cruise port (you need it to get an online quote):
